The Recipe Black Hippy
Black Hippy Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴

Jay Rock checking in, you niggas checking out
When I grip the pen
That's how it is when I'm on the mic
I'm the People's Choice
The streets never lie
I paid dues so I'm self made
And if you got something shitty to say
You get slept or slayed haters in the shade
They running they mouth
They steady talking till the
Gun in they mouth go ahead and chit chat
That's when you hear the click-clack
Then it's all over
Too late to bleed, squeeze then flee
Bleed the streets, bleed the beats
True story i'm straight gutter, all guts
No glory
You niggas whack with them same raps
Y'all bore me
You're all killers and dealers
With scrilla like Kobe
Cut it out, you rappers papier mache
K lamar my nigga, go ahead and take 'em away

I said we don't wanna hear
That weak shit no more my flow China white
Like a sheep in the snow
I go deep as the Bible
I could debate with the pope
And you rappers go down hill
Like a ski on the slope
I been a boat with Papi
But I ain't trying to cop no work
I'm trying to cop me the
Boat and some more property i told Rock
"We gotta be more then just a commodity
Make the whole name and entity to infinity"
Y'all want me off the juice, no grenadine
Could stop me from thinking presidential like
The scattered brains of Kennedy
After I shot, duck down
So the crowd won't witness me
Now, could somebody locate Mr shakur?
And tell these Tupacs, they two shots
Away from two blocks
Of being neighbors with the Almighty Lord
I put your best material in
Then fast forward kendrick, signing off
I'm sure your signature's forged, boy

They say I'm headed to the county and
They said it's for a murder
In a zone like a touchdown
No need to be turned down
Catch a fade, mandatory
Walk up in the dorm room just me and my heart
Let it start where you from?
I bang back start pushing back the rack
So I guess it's time to scrap
Run that, Look i Whooped his ass for an hour
Made his nigga have to drag him in the shower
Survival techniques from the streets
Don't apply in here
Just barbarious niggas who'll
Try your fears, ruthless
Little church choir and Hell's fire
And lemme see you sing your
Ass out of this one smashed out a victim
Should've kept push ups in your routine
Eating tuna for your protein
Most niggas turn scary, fags get buried
Snatch a mothafucka's commissary
Don't worry I'm a gangster

Look first name Herbert
Last name Steven
Don't call it my government
Cause I don't know none of them
As far as rap
I'm running it like I'm getting robbed
Target wasn't quite my target
That's why I quit my job
These niggas better hop on board
When my ship sets sail and
I sell a few records
Sipping Guinness and set a few records
Enough is never enough i gotta do extra
I gotta go the distance
I gotta prosper, I gotta put my mamacita
In that big casa i gotta be the
Realest if not the illest to spit a verse
God MC, Pick a church hallelujah
Don't let the curly hair fool you
My hair ain't quite wool
And my feet ain't bronze
And it's inadequate thinking I
Used to run Nazareth
Imagine if this hoodie was a crown of thorns
You wish you had the stamina to go that hard
Get your punchlines up
Then maybe we could spar
Your lyrics should make a point
Then maybe we could score
Then maybe I could show
You how three met-a-four (Beat runs out)
Metaphorically speaking I'm more indecent
Then papa bear getting distracted
Enjoying his porridge, peep it
In a war, I rip a warrior to pieces
Make a Domino effect
Like I'm delivering pizzas
(Kendrick: "Let him go
Let him keep going")
And if that ain't a fact
Then neither is Jesus black-lipped bastard
Puffing on a pasture
I hit a chick till she holla'
Like she caught the Holy Ghost
Then I passed her, holy smokes
I bring disaster to every quote
You a Shasta to a Coke i'm a master
Sensei with a pen raised
Build up bricks, just to break
In the dojo blowing do do and to be frank

I'm so hot I make the snow flake on any day
Ab-Soul, now you know mane

Overall Meaning

In the first verse, Jay Rock establishes himself as a respected and authentic artist in the rap game. He confidently proclaims that when he grabs the pen and steps on the mic, he becomes the People's Choice. He emphasizes that the streets never lie and acknowledges the hard work and dues he has paid to achieve success. He warns those who have negative things to say about him that they will face consequences, even going as far as suggesting violence towards his haters. He dismisses other rappers as boring and unoriginal, claiming that they lack substance and creativity. He then gives a shoutout to K. Lamar, recognizing his talent and authority before handing him the mic.

In the second verse, K. Lamar reflects on the state of the rap industry, expressing his dissatisfaction with the weak content being produced. He compares his flow to "China white," a powerful, pure form of a drug, suggesting that his lyrics are potent and impactful. He boasts his intelligence and ability to engage in deep debates, even with the Pope. He criticizes other rappers for their decline in quality and relevance, comparing it to a downhill ski slope. K. Lamar references being associated with drug-dealing but clarifies that his ambitions extend beyond that and that he wants to acquire wealth and property. He emphasizes the importance of building a lasting legacy and becoming more than just a commodity.

In the third verse, Jay Rock tells a story of his experience in jail. He addresses the rumors about him being involved in a murder and asserts his innocence. He describes the harsh environment and the need to be tough and ready to defend oneself. He shares the gruesome details of a fight, showcasing his survival skills in a harsh environment where normal rules don't apply. He highlights the ruthless nature of prison life and the challenges faced by inmates. Despite the difficulties, he asserts his resilience and maintains his identity as a gangster.

In the final verse, Ab-Soul introduces himself with his birth name, emphasizing that he doesn't associate with his government (legal) name. He declares himself as a dominant force in the rap game, comparing his control over the industry to not being robbed. He no longer works a regular job because his rap career is taking off. He encourages other artists to join him on his journey to success. Ab-Soul expresses his ambition to sell records, enjoy life, and prosper, including providing for his loved ones. He showcases his skills as a rapper and challenges others to improve their lyrics and engage with him on a higher level. He uses vivid imagery to describe his own power and effectiveness in delivering impactful verses. Ab-Soul ends the verse on a religious note, referencing Jesus and comparing his own intensity and dedication to that of a religious figure. He finishes by addressing his fellow artist, Ab-Soul, indicating that now they know his capabilities and talent.

[Ab-Soul]
Fuck Black Hippy, nigga
I invented the recipe

It's a beautiful day, I guess
For a bitch to roll with Ab-Soul, I guess
Pretty chick, let me see them breasts
E.T. OG from the weed clinic (Soulo!)
Solo, but I'm never alone (That's right)
I stay high and I'm powerful (Soulo!)
Westside! (Easy call)
I got three eyes, man, I see y'all
All I do is kill shit, ICU
Party with a few girls at USC
It's eight-two degrees and my top off, and they top off
I'm getting topped off (Soul!) Top Dawg
Women, weed, and weather, what more can I say?
"To live and die in LA"
"Spend a week on Venice Beach"
I'm 2Pac AND Biggie Smalls

[ScHoolboy Q]
Every mornin', nigga, I get blazed, aye (Yeah!)
Women, weed, and weather, nigga, if you bored, come and join the wave, aye (Yeah!)
Girl, what is your name? Cause I'm feeling your frame, can I see what you bout? Uh!
A little somethin' in your rear, little somethin' in your mouth
Little somethin' on your couch, uh! Know what I'm talkin' about?
Bring the coffin out
Cause I killed it, I done drilled it
She said she like it from the back like a real bitch, uh!
She swallowed my pride, I damn near cried
Yo, I can't reply, she curled my toes and crossed my eyes
But when you got the recipe, it's no surprise
Bad hoes panties get left behind, I want your behind and

[Chorus: Kendrick Lamar] + (Dr. Dre)
You might catch me in Atlanta lookin' like a boss
New Orleans and then Miami, party in New York
Texas, I be screwed up, Chi-town, I be really pimpin'
But nothin' like my hometown, I'm forever livin'
Women, weed and weather
(They come for) women, weed and weather
For the women, weed and weather
(From all around the world for the) women, weed and weather
Got that women, weed and weather
Don't it sound clever? Come and play
What more can I say? Welcome to LA

[Kendrick Lamar]
Uh, my nigga said he wanna fly out to get him some

Three W's only for a three day run, bitch!
Take them motherfuckin' panties off, you ain't no nun, shit!

"Ribbon in the Sky" on the radio cause Stevie know I control
Let it breathe, I control, California livin' 'till I am old
You want to be on to peak on the chart
So the peons can be gone and pee on their hearts
She in the coupe, she in the Neon cause she on the BS before we can start, uh!

Fuck with a nigga, ride with a nigga, let 'em know I'm priority
Order me Hennessy and for my niggas OG Killa, call it Jason Voorhees
Boy, he on his job, boy, he sure be havin' the marks on they mark
Pretty bitches and tire marks, let 'em inhale the pipe exhausts
Let 'em reveal how much it cost for this life controllin' my vice
No way, hell no, uh-uh, if I'm wrong I don't wanna be right
We want to be on to peak on the chart
So the peons can be gone and pee on their hearts
Women, weed, weather, it's not my fault
That it's eight-two degrees and my top peeled off

[Chorus: Kendrick Lamar] + (Dr. Dre)
You might catch me in Atlanta lookin' like a boss
New Orleans and then Miami, party in New York
Texas, I be screwed up, Chi-town, I be really pimpin'
But nothin' like my hometown, I'm forever livin'
Women, weed and weather
(They come for) women, weed and weather
For the women, weed and weather
(From all around the world for the) women, weed and weather
Got that women, weed and weather
Don't it sound clever? Come and play

I can admit I was a little late on the TDE train. But I am SOOOO HAPPY that I found them when I did because I was starting to think that most of the rap that is out is garbage. They are a breath of fresh air. It's better music than most the crap out right now. Why aren't you happy that they'll make all these corny rappers extinct? These one hit wonders with music that talks about FUCK ALL!!! Just enjoy their music! And that they are gaining attention and making it!
