Small Believer
Black Milk Lyrics

I'm sitting in an armchair, humming
silent prayers again
what am I
I'm spilling soda water
for the whisper of a name
unspoken words
penetrate the light
prepare to fly
I am still a small believer
I am just the wall beneath you
won't you have a try
and tear it down
what am I
I'm searching for the shadows you have
left for me to find
what am I
I'm dancing 'rond in circles
in the corner of my mind
the moment will conceal
there's nothing to be said
all I've ever been
will fall in shreds
I am still a small believer
I am just the wall beneath you
won't you have a try
and tear it down
hear me I'm the voice that calls you
and I crawl and rise and fall to
find a way so you
could tear it down
who am I to love
who am I to feel
who am I to judge
whatever you may be
who am I to claim
I could be the one
the one
I am still a small believer
I am just the wall beneath you
won't you have a try
and tear it down
hear me I'm the voice that calls you
and I crawl and rise and fall to
find a way so you
could tear it down
down
tear it down
tear it down
The Black Milk song "Small Believer" is a poignant and introspective piece that explores one's sense of self and worth. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song with the singer musing on their identity and purpose until now. The imagery of the soda water and unspoken words hint at the singer's inner turmoil and the idea that they have been holding onto untold narratives for too long. The following verses continue in this vein, with the singer expressing their feeling of aimlessly wandering and search for meaning. The line "who am I to judge whatever you may be" and "who am I to claim I could be the one" further suggest a lack of self-assurance or sense of belonging.
However, the chorus upliftingly asserts that the singer is still a "small believer" who persists in their quest despite feeling like "just the wall beneath you". They implore the subject of the song to "tear down" their inner barriers and explore the opportunities that lie beyond them. The repeated phrase "hear me I'm the voice that calls you" conveys that the singer is willing to be a guide to the object of their attention.
In conclusion, "Small Believer" is an introspective song that grapples with themes of identity, self-belief, and purpose. It encourages listeners to be bold and take steps towards growth, all while acknowledging the inherent uncertainty that comes with navigating one's sense of self.
