25 Years
Blackmore's Night Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

25 years since I woke up trembling
25 years since that terrible dream
I could see that the world was crumbling
Nothing is ever as it seems

Tried to run but my feet were frozen
Tried to scream but there was no sound
In my head voices echoing
Girl you should know better by now

Long ago, Far away
In the mist of yesterday

And you tried so hard to save me
How do you save someone from themselves
All those years, wasted wishes
Drowning in the wishing well

25 years since I woke up trembling
25 years since that terrible dream

I could see that the world was crumbling
Nothing is ever as it seems

Overall Meaning

The song "25 Years" by Blackmore's Night speaks of a person who wakes up trembling, 25 years since a terrible dream that haunts them. The lyrics describe the crumbling world that they see, one that is not as it seems. The person tries to run, but their feet are frozen, and they attempt to scream, but no sound comes out. They hear echoing voices in their head, telling them that they should have known better.

The song then shifts to speak about someone who tried to save the person in the dream but couldn't, asking how one can save someone from themselves. The lyrics describe years of wasted wishes, as if they were trying to save the person in the dream. The song concludes with the person still haunted by the dream 25 years later, still seeing the world crumble, and still realizing that nothing is ever as it seems.

The lyrics of the song are powerful and emotional, exploring themes of helplessness, fear, and the inability to save oneself. The dream-like quality of the lyrics adds to the haunting and surreal nature of the song. It speaks not only of a personal struggle but also of the realization that the world is not always as it appears.

Still under impression of their live performance I witnessed in 2013. I dig modern music, it's fun and all, but this... this is something else. Forever in my heart.

This is probably my favorite song from Blackmore's Night. I used to listen to it on repeat when I was cleaning. Then I went for a long time without listening to them and forgot that this song's name and that it was by Blackmore so I kept looking for it in Blackmill's playlist, Blackmill is also good if you like Blackmore lol

This is a wonderful song, definitely one of their strongest melodies on the 'Lanterne'. Pity they never seem to play this one live.
