St. Teresa
Blackmore's Night Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Sit down on the corner, just a little climb
When I make my money, got to get my dime
Sit down with her baby, wind is full of trash
She bold as the street light, dark and sweet as hash

[Chorus]
Way down in the hollow, leavin' so soon
Oh, St. Teresa, higher than the moon

Reach down for the sweet stuff, when she looks at me
I know any man sees you like I see
Follow down the side street movin' single file
She say
That's where I'll hold you, sleeping like a child

[Chorus]

Just what I've been needin', feel it rise in me
She say
Every stone a story, like a rosary
Corner St. Teresa, just a little crime
When I make my money, got to get my dime

[Chorus]

You called up in the sky
You called up in the clouds
Is there something you forgot to tell me
tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me, tell me

Show me my Teresa, feel it rise in me
Every stone a story, like a rosary

Overall Meaning

The lyrics in the song "St. Teresa" by Blackmore's Night seem to speak of a person who is sitting on the corner and waiting to make some money in order to get some affection from someone they seem to care about. The person they care for is called St. Teresa, and the lyrics imply that she is not an ordinary woman, as she is described as being "bold as the street light" and "dark and sweet as hash". The chorus of the song mentions how St. Teresa is "higher than the moon" and how the singer is "leaving so soon" as if they are longing for her company but can't stay any longer.

As the song progresses, the lyrics mention how St. Teresa takes the singer to a side street and tells him that it is where she will hold him while he sleeps like a child. The singer seems to be overwhelmed with emotion and says that he feels something rising in him, and St. Teresa tells him that every stone has a story, like a rosary. The singer seems to be searching for answers as he calls out to St. Teresa in the sky and the clouds, asking if there is something she forgot to tell him. The song seems to be about a person who is seeking the company of someone special, perhaps someone who is spiritually significant to them.

Could anyone tellme what is the music talking about, I don't get it so well, thx!

@penzlic

I never really listen to the lyrics, because music and vocals are overwhelming by themselves, but i googled it: this is cover of Joan Osborne song and site songfacts says: "This song is about a woman who is down on her luck and trying to support herself and her baby by making money as a prostitute. The song explores how a woman who is overlooked and discarded is still very human and complex."
