"Double Dutch"
Blake Lively Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
It makes me happy, it makes me grin
I like to double Dutch and dancing too
It makes me happy and all I see is you
Playing tennis after school,
Picking flowers by big blue swimming pools
I like to double Dutch, I like to run
I like to party with hula-hoops
It makes me happy and all I see is you
And when I'm happy, all I see is you
In Blake Lively's song "Double Dutch," the singer expresses how happy and joyful she feels when she engages in activities such as double dutch, swimming, and dancing. These activities bring her immense happiness, and all she sees is the person she loves. The lyrics also mention other activities that bring her joy, such as playing tennis and picking flowers by big blue swimming pools. The overall theme of the song is about finding joy in simple things in life and spending time with loved ones.
The repetition of "It makes me happy, it makes me grin" emphasizes the happy feelings the singer experiences while doing these activities. The phrase "all I see is you" suggests that the person she loves brings happiness to her life, and everything she does is associated with that person. The references to childhood activities such as double dutch and hula-hoops create a sense of nostalgia and innocence, implying that happiness can be found in the simplest of things.

I think Blake shows character and honesty when stating that she cannot sing, despite all the rave reviews. The voice of the little girl is angelic; so clear and pure. Together, both voices work very well; very touching.😃

Dude she's not a bad singer in either of the tracks for this movie. I mean, she's not quite singing with a varying range but she has really good pitch. She's really great on speaking-range pitch and hits that so well. She's talked about being in show choir and that dancing was her strong suit as opposed to singing. Not to mention being a performer with enthusiasm. She's honestly such a stellar woman with her charm, wit, and passion.
