Like Someone in Love
Blakey Art Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Hearing guitars like someone in love.
Sometimes the things I do astound me,
Mostly whenever you're around me.
Lately I seem to walk as though I had wings,
Bump into things like someone in love.
Each time I look at you,
I'm limp as a glove,
The lyrics of Blakey Art's song "Like Someone in Love" describe the feeling of infatuation and admiration towards someone. The singer in the song finds himself caught up in the spell of love, as he looks up at the stars and listens to guitars, all while feeling astounded by the actions he takes in the presence of this special person. He walks with a newfound sense of lightness, bumping into things as he loses himself in the euphoria of love. Whenever he catches a glimpse of the object of his affection, he feels weak and powerless, much like a limp glove.
The lyrics are a testament to the transformative effect love can have on a person, how it can make everyday things feel new and exciting. The way the singer sees the world changes when he is in love, as he becomes more aware of beauty all around him. The lyrics also hint at the universal nature of love, as the singer describes feelings that many people can relate to or have experienced at some point in their lives.

Wow! I got these records back in high school, and they are something. Just plain pure jazz. Look, there are no velvet ropes, no strut, or posturing. Just natural goodness. If you have more songs or selection please present them to us. I can not say thank you enough.

Bassist Doug Watkins was about 20 years old then. It is amazing to hear him play half-time while Art Blakey is double-timing under Kenny Dorham's solo

No matter how many versions I hear of this standard, this version is untouchable for me.
With that said, Joe Magnarelli, the authority on kenny Dorham in the 21st c., does a fantastic rendition.

Both Mobley and Dorham are superb on this track with Silver and Watkins adding impressive touches to a beautifully constructed composition. "Like Being In Love" is a brilliantly written song that plays great no matter who does it, and The Messengers do it very well. Nice upload to wine and dine her by
