In 2000, several of the band's songs were scheduled for use during the production of a film entitled "Standing at the Edge of the Earth" by Fizzle Freak Productions. In 2006, Jeff Pence headed a project in which the band contributed two tracks for "Clutch Hits," a CD that featured a variety of artists singing about the Cincinnati Reds. The songs were entitled "Play Ball" and "Me, Marty, Joe, Ted & Louise." The project was a fund raiser for the Reds Community Fund.
Jelly
Blessid Union Of Souls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We searched for love amidst the lies
I didn't mean to draw her in
To a fight we'll never win
And I sigh as.
She becomes like jelly in my hands
She told me things I never heard
We shallow all that love can give
Cause love's the reason that we live
And I cry as.
She becomes like jelly in my hands
We crossed our T's with gazing eyes
We knew it all was finalized
Built this love on sinking sand
And I'm ashamed that I'm afraid to lend a hand as.
She becomes like jelly in my hands.
In this song, "Jelly," Blessid Union of Souls takes a hard look at love and relationships. The opening lines set the scene, with the singer admitting that he saw his future with someone else in eyes that were not his partner's. The couple "searched for love amidst the lies," only to find that they were building their love on "sinking sand." The singer reflects on how easy it is to manipulate and control someone when they are in love, hence the imagery of the other person becoming like "jelly in my hands."
As the song progresses, the singer reveals that the other person confided things in him that they had never told anyone else, and he drank in every word. The shallow nature of their love is once again emphasized, as they "take all that love can give." The final verse delves deeper into the singer's shame and regret. The relationship may be over, but he is still afraid to offer a hand to the other person, who is still like "jelly in my hands."
Overall, the song presents a pessimistic view of romantic love, highlighting the ways in which it can be used to manipulate and control others. It also emphasizes the danger of building a relationship on a foundation of lies and deceit. The repeated refrain of "She becomes like jelly in my hands" serves as a warning against the power imbalances that can emerge in a relationship.
