Rave
Blondie Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Do not disturb is on the doorway
We are both inside burning up the roomrate
Stand there in the light so I can see you
I wanna feast my eyes
I'm burning down my memories

On the road to ruin one more time
Spoil me, let me see
Shatter all that matters and step out of a tragedy
It's never been better

I'm in the grip of my intentions
I'm almost paralysed, paralysed
I can't wait for honourable mentions
You get no guarantees, no guarantees
What I need
All dressed up and polished to a shine
All the ravenites
Stutter to the gutter slip into a limousine
It's never been better

On the road to ruin one more time
Spoil me, let me see
Shatter all that matters and step out of a tragedy
It's never been better

All dressed up and polished to a shine
All the ravenites
Stutter to the gutter slip into a limousine
It's never been better

On the road to ruin one more time
Spoil me, let me see
Shatter all that matters and step out of a tragedy
It's never been better

All dressed up and polished to a shine
All the ravenites
Stutter to the gutter slip into a limousine
It's never been better

On the road to ruin one more time
Spoil me, let me see

Shatter all that matters and step out of a tragedy
It's never been better

Overall Meaning

The song "Rave" by Blondie has a pulsating beat that evokes the exuberance and excitement of a party. Yet, there is a darker undercurrent to the lyrics that suggest that the partygoers are trying to escape from their problems and anxieties. The phrase "Do Not Disturb" on the doorway implies a desire for privacy and secrecy. The singer is with someone else in the room, and together, they are "burning up the room rate." The idea of destroying everything in a blaze of passion is a recurring theme in the song.

The singer pleads with their partner to stand in the light so that they can see them. The image of feasting one's eyes suggests a hunger and desire that is almost insatiable. The line "I'm burning down my memories" implies a sense of rebellion and recklessness. The singer is on the "road to ruin," and they seem to embrace it rather than resist it. They want to be spoiled and see all that matters shattered. The phrase "step out of a tragedy" suggests a desire to escape from their past and start anew.

The singer is in the grip of their intentions, and they are almost paralyzed by them. There is a sense of urgency and desperation in their voice as they plead for "honorable mentions." They want recognition and validation, but they know that there are no guarantees. The phrase "ravenites" is a play on the word "ravenous," which means extremely hungry or greedy. The singer is participating in this rave, but they are also watching the other partygoers and observing their behavior.

Overall, the song "Rave" is a complex and nuanced exploration of themes related to rebellion, desire, and self-destruction. The pulsating rhythm and catchy chorus make it a memorable and popular track, but there is also a depth and underlying darkness to the lyrics that make it worth analyzing further.
