Since its beginnings in 1967, the band has gone through numerous iterations with varying personnel and has encompassed a multitude of musical styles. What the band is most known for, from its start, is the fusing of rock, blues, pop music, horn arrangements and jazz improvisation into a hybrid that came to be known as "jazz-rock". Unlike "jazz fusion" bands, which tend toward virtuostic displays of instrumental facility and some experimentation with electric instruments, the songs of Blood, Sweat & Tears merged the stylings of rock, pop and R&B/soul music with big band, while also adding elements of 20th Century Classical and small combo jazz traditions.

Overall Meaning

In "You're the One," Blood Sweat & Tears sings about finding the love of one's life, who has given them everything and more. I love the bass line by Fielder, and how Columby locks in. BS&T were so musical, notice how the bridge has just enough more excitement in terms of volume and instrumentation. Clayton Thomas is amazing. Everything is always so well arranged, GREAT BAND.

Personally for me JCT has an incredible unmatachable voice that makes this song so great.Musically the arrangement and strings and orchestra is equally amazing.Truly a very unique result in a story telling style.The guy s been a fantastic talent for so many years and has left us with great memories as we reminisce his numerous musical contributions.

@takemeback2 I'm 56, and this song still gives me goose bumpleys. DCT played at my high school in 1968, before he joined Blood Sweat and Tears. I was mezmerized by this man! And I have been a huge fan of BST ever since DCT joined up. DCT's doing his own thing now, but he's still just as wonderful as he was 40 years ago! You gotta love that guy!

I haven't heard this song in over 30 years. At 57 I've spent a lot of time reminiscing and this song came to mind so looked it up and here it is. Thanks Kirk! It's nice to read all the other great responces. It truly is a great song! The song was on the More Than Ever album (1976) and is available CD. I think I'll have to get myself a copy.

I still have the original vinyl album my parents bought for me in 1969. It was a month's worth of allowance to get this album ($1/week). It is still my fave!!!! DCT has the best voice!

One of the best from David Clayton Thomas and BS&T. I played the heck out of this to no avail as David had left the band to go solo and Columbia never really promoted this like they should have.Had it been released instead of his Magnificent Sanctuary Band it might have been HUGE,This was at the same time when RCA Canada released David's song Yolanda,The Shanman

AGREED!!! Today's run-of-the-mill music is just so much crap! If we could have more artists like DCT still getting their stuff out there!!!! There are awesome artists still out there, but today's demand for mediocrity kinda leaves them out of the loop. If I were a serious musician in this day, I would want to find a black market outlet for my music! I wouldn't want to be any part of what passes for music in this general mayhem of bullshit!

sounds beautiful but essentially it is musically just filled with cliches. No intuitive feelings to me, just bland, but enjoyable. Of course historical exposure is the key to music. Had I heard this 40 years ago with less music in my memory I might have a different reaction to it.

Truly, if you had heard this 40 years ago, it would still move you to this day. I understand how music today has just become some sort of electronical porridge, no real artistry anymore. I have records and tapes of the good old music that I still listen to. If i were to lose all the music I have, I don't think I could deal with today's oatmeal!!!

Vernon Smithjr Blood, Sweat and Tears, I think, is one of the most brilliant bands ever put together. They have a beautiful blend of every genre of music, and they do it all so beautifully! I have a 1968 album, (vinly) Blood Sweat and Tears. "Theme" by Eric Satie was always my fave. I now have a CD, with Satie's Theme, but it's not the same as what I have on my old vinyl record.

Just for asking....do any of you still have old records?
