"" Formed in 1992 and comprised of members Scott Angelacos (vocals), Matt Easley (guitar), Art Legre (bass), and John Stewart Jr. (drums), Bloodlet specializes in a form of hardcore that's even more angst ridden and brutal than most of their counterparts. Issuing several singles straight away, Bloodlet signed on with the renowned hardcore label Victory not long after their formation, resulting in a trio of releases during the mid to late ‘90s -- 1995's Eclectic (a compilation of their aforementioned early singles), 1996's Entheogen, and 1998's Seraphim Fall, before splitting up. Little was heard from Bloodlet's former members, as most dispersed to other locales. But during their retirement, several up and coming hardcore groups began name checking Bloodlet as an important influence (especially Eighteen Visions, among others), and by late 2001, Bloodlet had reunited and was rehearsing once more. Hooking up with renowned indie producer Steve Albini, Bloodlet issued their fourth release overall in 2002, the hard hitting Three Humid Nights in the Cypress Trees -- picking up exactly where they'd left off several years earlier.

Sister Supreme
Bloodlet Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The lyrics to Bloodlet's song "Sister Supreme" are dark and cryptic, but with a careful analysis, one can gather a few key themes. The opening lines suggest a pervasive sense of guilt, with the singer urging someone to raise their head and see what they have done. This idea of guilt is reinforced by the subsequent lines that describe a surreal and sublime atmosphere of addiction and affliction, insinuating that the addiction has caused some negative consequences. The hand reaching for "sister supreme" perhaps symbolises a desire for help or a need for salvation.
The lyrics then shift to describe a love triangle involving "special k kids," which creates a sense of panic and confusion. The singer seems to see themselves as a victim, placing blame on others - the "bastards" and "knuckle-headed hustlers." The line "Mama I broke the camel's back" suggests reaching the tipping point of stress and burden. The song ends with a bleak picture of miscommunication and confusion, perhaps suggesting that the issues at hand are too complex and misunderstood to be easily resolved.
