I Like London In the Rain
Blossom Dearie Lyrics

With my boots on, in the rain
Feel the coolness in the air
Let the rain fall in my hair
I like London in the rain
Wet umbrellas in the rain
The other couples arm in arm
Winds are blowing
Lights are glowing
Falling rain
I like London in the rain
Streets like mirrors in the rain
Turn the city upside down
Liquid pictures of the town
How I fancy misty hours
On a rainy thoroughfare
I like London with umbrellas everywhere
The lyrics of Blossom Dearie's song "I Like London In the Rain" capture the nostalgia and romanticism associated with walking the city of London on a rainy day. The opening verse illustrates the sensation of raindrops hitting one's boots and feeling the coolness of the air during a strong downpour. The following lines, "let the rain fall in my hair," suggest an enjoyment of the feeling of rain and a willingness to embrace the moment.
The second verse, "Wet umbrellas in the rain / The other couples arm in arm / London drizzle has its charm," paints an idyllic and idiosyncratic picture of couples walking the streets arm in arm shielded by their umbrellas. The song portrays the beauty in the mundane activity of walking in the rain, highlighting the unique charm of the English capital in such weather. The line, "Turn the city upside down / Liquid pictures of the town," refers to the visual splendor of seeing the reflection of the city's buildings and lampposts on the glistening pavements.
Overall, "I Like London In the Rain" is a simple, evocative song that captures the allure of the city on a rainy day, where dreariness and beauty collide.
