Love Is the Reason

Love was the gleam in papa's eye
People suddenly meet
People suddenly fit
People suddenly hit
And brother, that's it
Love is a kick right in the pants
Love is the aspirin you buy
If you're flappin' your fins
If you're climbin' a wall
There must be a reason for it all
What is the reason for it all?
Love is the reason for it all
Love is the night you can't recall
Love is the extra drink you drank
Love's a shot in the arm
Love's a poke in the ribs
Buyin' bottles and bibs
And fillin' up cribs
Obviously
Love is an old established trap
Ten million suckers walk the plank
If you land on your tail
Every time that you fall
I can't see the reason for it
Who needs a reason for it?
Love is the reason for it all
All night the teasin' in the hall
Hallways are lovely for a call
Call it the season
I say, "Love is the reason for it all"
In "Love Is the Reason," Blossom Dearie emphasizes that the reason for existence is love. She sings that love was the reason her parents came together and the same reason that she was born. She acknowledges that people often suddenly meet and feel compatible, and she says that love may take many forms, including a poke in the ribs or a shot in the arm. Dearie acknowledges in the chorus that love is old-established, and many people have fallen for its trap. If someone falls on their tail every time they fall in love, it might be challenging to see why; Dearie concludes that, regardless of whether or not we understand it, love is the motivation for everything.
The first verse of the song suggests that love is the driving force of human existence, from the moment of conception to the final breath. People's lives are often inspired by love, whether it's romantic love or love for something else, like a hobby or a passion. In the bridge, Dearie states that love is an "old established trap," which refers to the fact that love has been around for a long time and has caught many people in its grip. Love can be both a fantastic experience and a painful one. The song recognizes the difficulty of understanding why we continue to fall in love, even when we know that it might end in heartbreak. Despite all of this, Dearie argues that love is what makes every second of life worthwhile.

on Comment Allez Vous
(Parlez-vous Français?)
Mais oui, allons-y
(Parlez-vous chère madame?)
Comment allez vous? Fancy bumping into you
Comment allez vous? Tell me everything that's new
Are you happy are you sad?
Feeling good or feeling bad?
(and is there anything you're craving?)
(do you feel like misbehaving?)
Comment allez vous? Gee, it's nice to see you here
Comment allez vous? You look better every year
I was really on my way, but I had to stop and say:
Comment allez vous?
(Comment allez vous petit chou?)
Say it, it has 'savoir faire'
(Comment allez vous mon minou?)
Has a continental air
(once she heard it in the land, from a chinese laundry man)
Cloaks and suitors, by the oodles, say it to their cute french poodles
Comment allez vous?
Spaniards say it, so do Greeks
Comment allez vous?
In the desert, so do Sheiks
(show they know a thing or two)
(it's so easy, why can't you say?)
Comment?
Comment?
Comment allez vous?
