Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he studied at Ohio State University before going into show business. He adopted the stage name Blue Barron and by 1940 had created his own orchestra. His band's more subdued tone was referred to as "Sweet" music to distinguish it from the "Swing" bands of the era. Barron's orchestra began in the New York City area but later toured the U.S. and performed at popular venues in Los Angeles where they also appeared in several motion pictures and recorded a number of LPs.
National Service and Honours[edit]
During World War II, Barron served with the United States Army and at war's end resumed his musical career. He was able to work in the industry for another ten years until the Big Band era gave way to new musical forms. For his contribution to the recording industry, he has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1724 Vine Street. Barron hit #1 in 1949 with "Cruising Down The River".
Blue Barron died in 2005 in Baltimore, Maryland, and is interred in the Baltimore Hebrew Cemetery.
When I Fall in Love
Blue Barron & His Orchestra Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Maybe I am living in the past
But when I meet the right one
I know that I'll be true
My first love will be the last
When I fall in love it will be forever
Or I'll never fall in love
Love is ended before it began
And too many moonlight kisses
Seem to cool in the warmth of the sun
When I give my heart it will be completely
Or I'll never, never, never give my heart
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I give my heart to you
And the moment I can feel that you feel that way too
Is when I give my heart to you
The lyrics of "When I Fall in Love" by Blue Barron & His Orchestra express a deep sense of romantic idealism and commitment to true love. The singer acknowledges their old-fashioned nature and a tendency to dwell in the past, suggesting a longing for a simpler, more genuine type of love that transcends the transient nature of modern relationships. They indicate a belief in finding the right person and staying loyal to them, with the conviction that their first love will also be their last.
The song highlights the singer's unwavering belief that when they do fall in love, it will be a love that lasts forever. They emphasize the seriousness of their emotions, stating that if they do not find that enduring love, then they might never fall in love at all. This declaration sets a high standard for their future relationships, insisting on a love that is deep, genuine, and lasting, rather than fleeting or superficial.
The lyrics also allude to the challenges of maintaining love in a world that is described as restless and fickle. The reference to love ending before it even begins suggests a recognition of the transience and fragility of romantic relationships in a society that values instant gratification and constant change. The imagery of moonlight kisses cooling in the warmth of the sun paints a picture of love that loses its intensity and passion over time, in contrast to the singer's desire for a love that endures.
The final verses of the song reflect the singer's commitment to giving their heart fully and completely to their beloved. They express a reluctance to open up and trust someone with their heart unless they are certain of mutual feelings. The moment of reciprocity, when they can feel that their love is reciprocated, is deemed crucial in determining when they are willing to share their deepest emotions and vulnerabilities. This emphasis on mutual understanding and emotional connection underscores the significance of trust and authenticity in forming a lasting and meaningful romantic bond.

My grandparents danced to this song at their wedding - July 12, 1969. Every so often they’d dance to it in their kitchen. On their 45th anniversary in 2014, which fell on a family reunion, my grandad put this song in the record player and he and my nana took the floor. Nana passed away August 22, 2018. I can only imagine the party they’d have planned for their fiftieth.

This was usually the "last dance" of the night at the "Y" dances. When the guys would approach a girl (who were all lined up against the wall), to ask for a dance they would continue to walk very slow, so if they were refused it didn't look like it to others. After all, this song was a close slow dance:) Those were memorable times.

An All Time "Deal Closer" song!

Great,Superb sound quality as usual from TheMusicProf

I'm noticing a pattern! The original 45 mixes are almost always better than the "remastered" stereo mixes that we've been hearing on CD compilations for many years. We may have gotten CD quality sound, but the mixes weren't actually as good as the originals. They should never have frogged with perfection!

This was one of four songs I sang at the Mission Ranch piano bar in Carmel earlier this year. Love this song.

Such a romantic song. I can't decide if I like this one better or the same as Nat King Cole's record of it.
