We All Fall Down
Blue Murder Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well Louie lost his daughter
Down behind that shack
The sweet brown sugar took her
And she did not make it back
It's another form of suicide
Now I know the reason why I'm runnin'

So if you see your sister tryin' to
hide her tracks
You just as well remind her
Cause she might not make it back
It's another form of suicide
No one knows the reason why she's runnin'
Far away

And all the fools think they're wise
And the angels they cry
And the people they all gathered round
It was nine twenty-five
When her body arrived
And by noon she was down in the ground

And we all fell down
(You better look out)

So if you see your brother
Choking on the dope
You just as well remind him
Cause he does not stand a hope
(It's) another form of suicide
No one knows the reason why he's runnin'
Far away

And we all fall down

So if you see your mama Shakin' on the street
Your little sister's starving
And there ain't no food to eat
She's looking for the dealer
She's tryin' to find some crack
Well, tell your little sister
Mama won't be coming back
Another form of suicide
No one knows the reason why she's runnin'
Far away

And all the fools think they're wise
And the angels they cry
And the people they all gathered round
It was nine twenty-five
When her body arrived
And by noon she was down in the ground

And we all fall down
And we all fall down
And we all fall down
To the ground And we all fall down
It's comin' to tet ya
Just one more hit
Just another hit
You Better look out

Cause the dealer's gonna get ya
You're going down

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Blue Murder's song, We All Fall Down, offer a poignant commentary on the tragic, cycle of addiction that draws people down like quicksand. It tells a story of a girl named Louie who lost her daughter to a drug overdose that took place behind a shack. The song exclaims that the same sweet brown sugar (slang for heroin) that took Louie's daughter can take anyone down, alluding to the drug being equivalent to a form of suicide. The lyrics also seem to suggest that addiction is a vicious cycle as the addict does not know the reason why they are running "far away," but they keep on running for their fix.

The song urges the listener to take action when they see someone they know spiraling into an addiction to remind them of the dangerous path they are taking. Even the seemingly wise fall victim to addiction, as the angels cry and the fools think they are wise, perhaps talking about individuals who believe they can handle the drugs or control their addiction. The song concludes with a sense of despair and inevitability to the cycle of addiction.

Well Louie lost his daughter Down behind that shack The sweet brown sugar took her And she did not make it back It's another form of suicide Now I know the reason why I'm runnin'
Louie's daughter has passed away behind the shack after taking an overdose of a sweet, addictive drug called brown sugar. The drug itself is a form of suicide, and this tragic loss has driven the singer to flee in fear for himself.

So if you see your sister tryin' to hide her tracks You just as well remind her Cause she might not make it back It's another form of suicide No one knows the reason why she's runnin' Far away
If you suspect that your sister is using drugs and trying to hide it, it is important to confront her and remind her of the dangers. Drug abuse can lead to death, and nobody knows why your sister may be running away from her problems.

And all the fools think they're wise And the angels they cry And the people they all gathered round It was nine twenty-five When her body arrived And by noon she was down in the ground
Despite thinking they're knowledgeable, some people foolishly end up taking drugs anyway, which can result in tragedy. When Louie's daughter eventually passes away from drugs, there is mourning all around, but her end still comes quickly after arriving at the scene.

And we all fell down (You better look out)
As everyone falls onto the ground or succumbs to the addictive nature of drugs in general, a warning voice over pop up to remind of the potential risks at hand.

So if you see your brother Choking on the dope You just as well remind him Cause he does not stand a hope (It's) another form of suicide No one knows the reason why he's runnin' Far away
In the case of someone who is abusing drugs to such an extent that they may literally choke, it is critical that they are reminded of what they are doing, because they may not have the ability to save themselves. This is also an additional form of suicidal behaviour, and nobody knows why the person may be running away from their problems.

And we all fall down
As everyone falls onto the ground, a solo is played to bring about a sense of finality in the situation.

So if you see your mama Shakin' on the street Your little sister's starving And there ain't no food to eat She's looking for the dealer She's tryin' to find some crack Well, tell your little sister Mama won't be coming back Another form of suicide No one knows the reason why she's runnin' Far away
If a family member is on the streets, suffering from drug addiction to the point that they are shaking, and everyone is struggling to find food, it is vital to advise your sister against seeking out the dealer that could sell her drugs. Nobody knows the underlying reason for her escape from the situation, and the act of addiction is in itself another risk of suicide.

And all the fools think they're wise And the angels they cry And the people they all gathered round It was nine twenty-five When her body arrived And by noon she was down in the ground
Once again, despite believing they are immune to it, the foolish often end up taking drugs and suffer as a result. Louie's daughter's death resulted in mourning from all of those who gathered together, but soon after her arrival at the scene she was buried within a few hours.

And we all fall down And we all fall down And we all fall down To the ground And we all fall down It's comin' to tet ya Just one more hit Just another hit You Better look out Cause the dealer's gonna get ya You're going down
No matter who we are, addiction is a thing that can get us all, and we can all fall down. A final warning is given to be careful because the next hit, no matter how tempting or alluring, could very well be the hit that ends it all. A warning voice warns of the looming danger that the dealer would bring to our lives and takes us down.

The song is reminiscent of a lonely teenage day without friends. When I was a teenager I used to listen to this song using a walkman. John Sykes and Blue Murder have always been a legend in my life.
