Blur's self-titled fifth album (1997) saw another stylistic shift, influenced by the lo-fi styles of American indie rock groups, and became their third UK chart-topping album. Its single "Song 2" brought the band mainstream success in the US for the first time. Their next album, 13 (1999) saw the band experimenting with electronic and gospel music, and featured more personal lyrics from Albarn. Their seventh album, Think Tank (2003), continued their experimentation with electronic sounds and was also shaped by Albarn's growing interest in hip hop and world music, featuring more minimal guitar work. Coxon left the band during early recording sessions for Think Tank, and Blur disbanded for several years after the end of the album's associated tour, with the members engaged in other projects.
In 2009, Blur reunited with Coxon back in the band and embarked on a European reunion tour. In the following years, they released several singles and compilations and toured internationally. In 2012, they received a Brit Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music. Their eighth album, The Magic Whip (2015), was the sixth consecutive Blur studio album to top the British chart. The group have largely been on hiatus since the Magic Whip tour, but have announced plans to reunite in 2023 for various live dates.

I Got Law
Blur Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Made it to the goal on lense
President, he just got hair down below
Tomorrow never more...
Made it to the BCP
Everybody knows it's me
I got up another sand,
The guilty cell
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
I got the law
Feeling Dove beyond con-pen
Nobody can take it there
Feel it now and do yourself until you're gone
Tomorrow never more...
Tomorrow never more...
The lyrics of Blur's song "I Got Law" are obscure and nonsensical, leaving the listener to decipher their meaning. The song seems to describe a state of mind that is beyond reason and rationality. The opening line "Feeling daft beyond gone bland" suggests a sense of foolishness, of being out of touch with reality. The next line, "Made it to the goal on lense" could imply a sense of achievement, but also may be referring to a distorted view of reality, as if looking through a lens or filter. The line "President, he just got hair down below" seems to come out of left field, adding to the overall nonsensical quality of the lyrics. The repeated refrain of "I got the law" may suggest a sense of power or control, but again, the meaning is unclear.
The lines "Made it to the BCP" and "Everybody knows it's me" could suggest that the singer has achieved some sort of notoriety, but the context is unclear. The lyrics "The guilty cell" may imply a sense of guilt or wrongdoing, but once again, there is no context or explanation provided. The final lines of the song, "Feeling Dove beyond con-pen / Nobody can take it there / Feel it now and do yourself until you're gone / Tomorrow never more..." continue the sense of confusion and ambiguity, leaving the listener with more questions than answers.
Overall, the lyrics of "I Got Law" are intentionally surreal and obscure, creating a sense of disorientation and adding to the overall mood of the song.
