Catley has started his musical career in band Magnum (founded in 1972). Following Magnum's demise in 1995 and the short-lived Hard Rain project, Catley joined up with Ten vocalist and songwriter Gary Hughes to release the album The Tower (1997), shortly followed by the supporting live album Live At The Gods (1997). Hughes again wrote the material for 1999's Legends release, and the critically acclaimed concept album Middle Earth (2001), which was inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings.
Despite rejoining Magnum following their reformation in 2002, Catley has continued his solo career with keyboardist Paul Hodson writing and producing 2003's When Empires Burn, his heaviest solo release to date. His latest solo album, Spirit Of Man (2006) saw yet another change in songwriting as Dave Thompson and Paul Uttley of Lost Weekend, and Vince O'Regan of Pulse did the honours.
As well as his career with Magnum and as a solo artist, Catley has lent his vocal talents to other projects by such artists as Clive Nolan and Oliver Wakeman, Gary Hughes, Ayreon and Tobias Sammett of Edguy (Avantasia).
Magnum's latest album, Princess Alice & The Broken Arrow was released in 2007 to excellent reviews and Catley has announced plans to record a new solo album towards the end of the year, set for release in 2008.
Haunted

Through ice and snow
Fly where the flames can't reach you
Reach your wounded soul
There is no magic that can save us
No secret words that will break this spell
Seeking for shelter in the mountains
We are walking on sacred ground
We should be safe and sound
No one can reach us here
Catch your breath for just a little while
Stop running from your fear
We are haunted
We are wanted
Evil eyes are watching us everywhere
We are flying
We are dying
Save yourself and fly away if you dare
They are the hunters of man's souls
Can smell our blood from miles away
Their hearts are filled with hate and revenge
Hurry up, we can no longer stay
We are walking on sacred ground
We should be safe and sound
No one can reach us here
Catch your breath for just a little while
Stop running from your fear
We are haunted
We are wanted
Evil eyes are watching us everywhere
We are flying
We are dying
Save yourself and fly away if you dare
Fly over the mountains
Through ice and snow
Fly where the flames can't reach you
Reach your wounded soul
We are walking on sacred ground
We should be safe and sound
No one can reach us here
Catch your breath for just a little while
Stop running from your fear
We are haunted
We are wanted
Evil eyes are watching us everywhere
We are flying
We are dying
Save yourself and fly away if you dare
We are haunted
We are wanted
Evil eyes are watching us everywhere
We are flying
We are dying
Save yourself and fly away if you dare
Fly away
The lyrics to Bob Catley's song "Haunted" speak of the haunting feeling of being pursued or watched by evil eyes everywhere one goes. The song starts with the singer urging the listener to fly over the mountains and through ice and snow, to a place where the flames of this haunting cannot reach them. The singer acknowledges that there is no magic that can save them from this spell, no secret words to break free. He speaks of fooling ourselves that we can hide in the mountains, yet we are walking on sacred ground and should be safe, but we are not. The haunting feeling follows us wherever we go, watching us and waiting for us, and we can no longer stay.
Bob Catley's lyrics paint a vivid imagery of a world where the hunters of man's souls can smell our blood from miles away, and their hearts are filled with hate and revenge. The dark haunting feeling is always close and very present, and the singer urges the listener to catch their breath, stop running from their fear, and fly away if they dare. In the end, the singer repeats the chorus, emphasizing the haunting feeling that follows them everywhere and the need to fly away if the listener dares.
In summary, "Haunted" is a song that speaks of the dark and haunting feeling that follows us when we are pursued, watched, or hunted by unseen figures or forces. The lyrics paint a picture of a world where the hunters of man's souls never stop pursuing and watching, and the only way to escape is to fly away.
