Starting out in 1963 with the group Bob Marley & The Wailers, he forged a distinctive song-writing and vocal style that would later resonate with audiences worldwide.
The Wailers would go on to release some of the earliest reggae records with producer Lee Scratch Perry.
After The Wailers disbanded in 1974, Marley pursued a solo career which culminated in the release of the album Exodus in 1977 which established his worldwide reputation and became one of the world's best-selling artists of all time, with sales of more than 75 million albums and singles.
Bob Marley was a member of this Rastafari movement, whose culture was a key element in the development of reggae. Bob Marley became the leading proponent of the Rastafari, taking their music out of socially deprived areas of Jamaica and onto the international music scene.
Now considered a "Rasta" prophet, Marley's adoption of the characteristic Rastafarian dreadlocks and famous use of marijuana as a sacred sacrament in the late sixties were an integral part of his persona. He is said to have entered every performance proclaiming the divinity of Jah Rastafari.
A few months before his death, Marley was baptised into the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and took the name Berhane Selassie (meaning the Light of the Holy Trinity in Amharic).
His best known songs are a mixture of reggae, Roots Reggae, and rhythm and blues, which include:
I Shot the Sheriff
Exodus
Could You Be Loved
Redemption Song
No Woman, No Cry
Three Little Birds
Buffalo Soldier
Is This Love
One Love
Stir It Up
Jammin'
Get Up, Stand Up
His posthumous album Legend (1984) became the best-selling reggae album ever, with sales of more than 12 million copies.
Bob Marley was posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994; in December 1999, his album “Exodus” (1977) was named Album of the Century by Time Magazine and his song “One Love” was designated Song of the Millennium by the BBC.

In Bob Marley's song Three Little Birds, he encourages his listeners not to worry about anything because everything is going to be all right. He invites them to rejoice and enjoy life as three little birds located on his doorstep sings sweet songs of true melody. The song aims to bring a sense of joy, happiness and positivity, even in times of hardship. It also serves as a reminder to trust that life will eventually work out in the end, and things will be fine. Marley gives reassuring words that individuals should not worry about the past, present or the future, but instead focus on enjoying the present moment.
The song is an anthem of hope and encouragement across the globe. Marley wrote the song when he experienced a time of struggle and crisis. He had to face an assassination attempt just two days before this song was recorded, and the country was in turmoil. « Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien »
Ils chantaient : « Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien »
Je me suis réveillé ce matin
Souriant au soleil levant
Trois petits oiseaux
Sur le pas de ma porte
Fredonnaient une chanson douce
A la mélodie pure et vraie
Qui disait : « Voici mon message pour toi :
Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien.
Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien »
Quand je me suis réveillé ce matin
Souriant au soleil levant
J’ai vu trois petits oiseaux
Perchés sur le pas de ma porte
Qui fredonnaient une chanson douce
A la mélodie pure et vraie
Qui disait : « Voici mon message pour toi :
Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien
Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien
Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien
Ne te soucie de rien
Car tout ira bien »

My dad died a few days ago. This was our song. This would be the song we danced too at my wedding if it ever happens. He always sang it to me. I just know hes aching to sing it to me now from heaven. I hope it's going to be alright.
He called the three girls across the street his three little birds, they called him uncle...
