Well, she was just seventeen,
You know what I mean,
And the way she looked
Was way beyond compare.
I'll never dance with another
Well, she looked at me
And I, I could see
That before too long
I'd fall in love with her
How could I dance with another
When I saw her standing there
Well, my heart went boom
When I crossed that room
And I held her hand in mine
We danced through the night
And we held each other tight
And before too long
I fell in love with her
I'll never dance with another
Since I saw her standing there
Well, my heart went boom
When I crossed that room
And I held her hand in mine
Oh, she was just seventeen,
You know what I mean,
And the way she looked
Was way beyond compare.
She'll never dance with another
Since I saw her standing there
Since I saw her standing there
Bob Welch's cover of the classic Beatles' song "I Saw Her Standing There" provides a nostalgic and romantic illustration of the intense emotions of falling in love. The song begins with the young narrator acknowledging that the girl he has just met is only seventeen, however, he is so taken by her beauty that he cannot resist falling in love. As he describes her, he insists that she is way beyond compare and that he will never dance with another since he saw her standing there. It is evident that the singer is completely smitten even though he has only just met her; as he encounters more time with her, he details how his heart went boom when he crossed the room and held her hand. The singer describes how they danced through the night, and before too long, he felt himself deeply falling in love with her.
The lyrics of "I Saw Her Standing There" are intense because they capture the essence of falling in love. The lyrics depict how irresistibly drawn two people can be to each other and how those drawn to each other can become so enamored that they are implacable. The lyrics of the song also portray how people can fall in love and be so confident that they will never love anyone else in the same manner as they do the person with whom they have just fallen in love. The lyrics of the song describe a familiar sensation that many people have felt when they meet someone dazzling and attractive, with whom they feel an instant and profound connection.
