That's All I Want From You
Bobby Bare Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

[ Both ]
A little love that slowly grows and grows
Not one that comes and goes that's all I want from you
A sunny day with hopes up to the sky a kiss and no goodbye
That's all I want from you
[ Bobby ]
Don't let me down oh show me that you care
[ Skeeter ]
Remember when you give you also get your share
[ Bobby ]
Don't let me down I have no time to wait
[ Both ]
Tomorrow might not come when dreams're dreamed too late
A little love that slowly grows and grows
Not one that comes and goes that's all I want from you
[ guitar ]
That's all I want from you
[ Bobby ]

Don't let me down oh show me that you care...
That's all I want from you

Overall Meaning

In Bobby Bare's song "That's All I Want from You," the lyrics speak of the desire for a love that is constant and sure. The song starts off with the two singers expressing their desire for "a little love that slowly grows and grows." They want a love that is not transient, that doesn't come and go. They want a relationship that is grounded in mutual love, respect, and trust.

The song is a beautiful plea for a partner who will not give up on the relationship when things get rough. The lyrics speak of a longing for a "sunny day with hopes up to the sky," a day that is filled with happiness and love. They want a kiss without the fear of goodbye. This desire for a stable relationship is further expressed in the following lines, where they ask their partner not to let them down and show them that they care. They remind their partner that giving and receiving love is a two-way street, and they must not take their love for granted.

The song's message is clear: love should be a constant force in our lives, something that grows over time and endures through thick and thin. The song's melody is simple and understated, allowing the lyrics to take center stage.

My mom played this album a lot when I was a toddler. Now I just turned 40, and the tunes to this great album still ring in my head. Skeeter and Bobby were two of a kind.

The Crushed Twinkie

What a splendid HQ recording! The favorite of mine of their great duets is I LOVE YOU, YOU, YOU, followed by TOO USED TO BEING WITH YOU, and this one. (Skeeter died from ovarian cancer aged 72 and Bobby Bare has been suffering from
some form of cancer for several years. He is presently 85 years old.) This gem of a song was written by the late Austrian songwriter and film score composer Fritz Rotter (1900-1984) who fled from Europe
after Hitler's rise to power in 1933, and wrote under the nome de plume M. Rotha [Mausie Rotha]. He died aged 84 from causes unknown to me.
Jaye P. Morgan also recorded this. A video can be found on the Marcus Brazil channel.😺
Jaye P. Morgan is
presently 89 years old. Others who recorded this song are Dean Martin, Bing
Crosby, Dinah Washington, Aretha Franklin, and Barbara McNair.
