Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bobby O's song Close To Me are short and repetitive, consisting only of the phrase "Don't you want to get close to me?" repeated multiple times. These lyrics convey a strong sense of desire from the singer towards their love interest. The repetition of the phrase underscores the importance and urgency of the singer's desire to be close to their love interest. The use of the word "close" emphasizes the singer's need for intimacy and to be physically near to their loved one. These lyrics are catchy and easy to sing along with, making the song memorable and impactful.

On a deeper level, the repetition of the phrase "Don't you want to get close to me?" could also suggest a lack of confidence or insecurity on the part of the singer. By repeatedly asking this question, they may be seeking reassurance that their love interest truly desires them and longs to be close to them as well. This could add a layer of vulnerability and sincerity to the lyrics, making them more relatable to listeners who have also experienced similar doubts in their romantic relationships.

He was absolutely masterful in this rendition. I miss Bobby Womack’s artistry more and more with each passing year since he left us!

I'm 32 and i grew up on Bobby, Al, Stevie, Teddy and others but they are my absolute favorites. Sometimes i feel I was born in the wrong decade. Music was real, people were more genuine, and not afraid to be free in who they were and create something new. I get lost in my own world listening to the music of the great soul legends.

One of the best song story tellers of all time!

I'm so glad I found this Bobby Womack cover of "Close to You!" This is an absolutely beautiful & deeply soulful rendition. It stands as its own classic! R.I.P Poet!

It's not a cover....🤐.

@PhilCherry3

@Beats4Life It is a cover. Bobby Womack was not the original lyricist nor the original singer. I believe this Womack version of the song was done in the mid-1970s, well after The Carpenters made it famous in 1970. Karen Carpenter's crystal clear voice powered this song to the top of the charts. The song was released multiple times by different singers in the 1960s-even before the Carpenters. To me Bobby Womack's interpretation of the song is an instant classic in its own rights. His phrasing; the places he chose to emphasize or soften; he expression of raw deep-love emotions is to me the essence of why he was called "The Poet."
