Mr. Lonely
Bobby Vinton(바비 빈튼) Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I have nobody for my own
I am so lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
Wish I had someone to call on the phone
Now I'm a soldier, a lonely soldier
Away from home through no wish of my own
That's why I'm lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
Letters, never a letter
I get no letters in the mail
I've been forgotten, yes, forgotten
Oh how I wonder, how is it I failed
Now I'm a soldier, a lonely soldier
Away from home through no wish of my own
That's why I'm lonely, I'm Mr. Lonely
I wish that I could go back home
The lyrics of Bobby Vinton's "Mr. Lonely" express the feelings of a man who is alone and yearning for companionship. The opening verse reveals the singer's deep loneliness as he declares "I have nobody for my own." He wishes he could find someone to call on the phone, highlighting his isolation and desire for connection. The second verse elaborates on his situation as a soldier, emphasizing that his separation from home is not voluntary. He feels trapped and helpless, far from the people and places he loves. The final verse laments the lack of communication he receives, underscoring his abandonment and questioning why he has been forgotten.

To anyone with age, these songs, with the added video here, instantly brings back a time of reality in life before mobile phones, instant communication, when there were too many gadgets to distract and when life was face to face. Hi tech didn't rule, cars were very ordinary and not worshiped, cable and the internet didn't interfere with personal interactions and life was in-your-face and quite raw. Emotions and courage were daily experiences, people were constant obstacles or opportunities, relationships were immediate and reactions from others were not hidden behind a screen. Life was lived. It developed character and grit through reality. Just memories today.
