T . are . E . X.
Some call me Arnie
Some name me Slim
It don't make no difference
'cause I move right in
They call me the groover
When I'm on the floor
The kids yell for more, more, more
Some call me Starkey
Some named me stud
Yes they do
It don't make no difference
'cause I move in the mud
I said sing it to me children
Yea I'm the groover honey Yea
I'm the groover honey Yea
I'm the groover honey
Well some call me Jeepster
And some name me lame
It don't make no difference

Man you know what it takes
I'm a groover 'cause I move right in

Overall Meaning

In Bolan Marc & T. Rex's song The Groover, the singer uses different nicknames that have been given to him and emphasizes that it doesn't matter which one he goes by because he always moves right in. The main name he associates with himself, however, is 'The Groover' - a name given to him for his dancing skills on the floor. The crowds always yell for more when he's dancing, regardless of the nickname he goes by. He refers to himself as a mover who can 'move in the mud' suggesting how adaptable and versatile he is.

As the song goes on, he sings about how some have called him 'Starkey' or 'Jeepster', while others have referred to him as 'Slim' or 'Lame', but he still maintains his status as 'The Groover'. The song celebrates individuality and uniqueness while also emphasizing that we don't have to identify with any specific label or nickname to be ourselves.

Overall, The Groover is a fun, danceable song that celebrates self-confidence and self-expression. The lyrics remind us that no matter what others call us or what labels we are given, we can always find our own way to move forward, just like the groover who always moves right in!

@bobgure

Superb crunchy guitar, twacking drums. Brilliant.

@goonerbeau

With its stomping beat and chant of 'T-R-E-X', things kick into gear.

'The Groover' was the 11th Top 10 hit in a row for T. Rex in the UK - Marc Bolan's final assault on the Top 10 and in many ways, where his golden era ended.

@michaelcameron2292

10 singles in the top 4 2 kept off the top by novelty records Grandad and Long Haired Lover From Liverpool Bolan has some legacy and plenty brilliant albums to boot

@goonerbeau

@@michaelcameron2292 Yes Michael and I distinctly recall '2Oth Century Boy' which was the first single I ever bought being held off the No.1 spot by Donny Osmond.
Those crunching power chords,, made it a stone-cold rock classic, and never should a track have sounded so obviously a No1 record...but wasn't

@michaelcameron2292

@@goonerbeau I saw T.rex 3 times in the Seventies and 20th Century Boy was the opening song in 2 of these concerts A truly great song and needless to say I still play it regularly today and still enjoy it as much now as I did then
