1. Bombadil is a contemporary folk-pop band from North Carolina, United States. The members have been playing music together since 2006. The group is composed of four mild-manner gentlemen who agree on everything except how to make music. Bombadil went into suspended animation in 2009 after an injury forced the band to stop touring indefinitely. In 2011, the band reformed, and has been active ever since. The sound is steeped in folk and possesses an almost classical air in its arrangements. Lyrics play a central and weighty role in every tune - telling stories of the mundane parts of life we all experience sometimes and the tragic or comic actions we take to redeem ourselves. The band hopes listeners will be able to find a bit of themselves in Bombadil, and come to realize it's the music they've had in their heads all along.
Bombadil has released 5 albums:
Self-titled ep - 2006
A Buzz, A Buzz - 2008
Tarpits and Canyonlands - 2009
All That The Rain Promises - 2011
Metrics of Affection - 2013
2. Bombadil was a spoof moniker used by British rock band Barclay James Harvest. Nick Mobbs, an A&R man at progressive rock label Harvest Records, formed Bombadil in 1974 to record the song "Breathless" and "When the City Sleeps" as a spoof of the glam rock that had just become trendy. Although the songs were supposedly written by "Terry Bull" and "Lester Forrest" they were in fact written by Woolly Wolstenholme and played by his Barclay James Harvest.

I′m gonna talk to her
And the next time I talk to her
I'm gonna ask her out
The soap is old the dry is cold and I cannot fold
My socks in knots as the quarters drop and I′m stuck in parking lots
As I listen to the machines go 'round
The next time I am at the laundromat I'm gonna call my dad
And the next time I call my dad I will apologize
The snack machine is stuck between the TV and magazines
That talk about our self-doubt and the things we can′t live without
As I listen to the machines go ′round
I've been waitin′ after weekend after weekend after
The lyrics to Bombadil's song "Laundromat" depict a simple, relatable scenario of being at a laundromat and the internal thoughts and reflections that arise during this mundane task. The singer expresses their intention to take a chance and talk to someone they are interested in at the laundromat, showing a desire for connection and perhaps even love. The repetition of the phrase "the next time" indicates a sense of missed opportunities or hesitation in previous encounters.
The first verse touches upon the frustrating aspects of doing laundry, with references to old soap, cold dryers, and socks tangled in knots. These physical challenges seem to mirror the singer's emotional state of feeling stuck and unable to move forward. The imagery of the quarters dropping and being stuck in parking lots conveys a sense of being trapped in a repetitive routine, echoed by the constant hum of the machines.
In the second verse, the focus shifts to a phone call to the singer's dad, suggesting a desire for reconciliation or an apology. The mention of the snack machine being stuck between the TV and magazines symbolizes the distractions and societal pressures that can hinder genuine self-reflection and personal growth. The lyrics allude to feelings of self-doubt and the never-ending quest for material possessions that are deemed necessary but do not truly fulfill.
Overall, "Laundromat" encapsulates the moments of introspection and longing that can arise during seemingly mundane tasks. It offers a glimpse into the singer's hopes and aspirations for connection, personal growth, and reconciliation.
