Born to a mother who designed clothing and a father who was a web designer. His grandfather was actor Robert Culp. When Bones was 7 years old, his family moved to Howell, Michigan. When he was 16, he dropped out of high school and moved to Los Angeles where his brother, Elliott, had already been living.

Bones and his manager Elliott O’Connor, who is also his brother, have both stated that major labels have shown interest in signing him but he has declined up to this point. Backroads
Bones Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Ain't nobody worried ′bout their flow now
Deal me one out here now really throwin' down
Turn the song loud, but I hear no sound
No sound, rollin' ′round downtown in the all black cloud
Punk on dope, sixteen, left home, flashback to the snow raised on the backroads
Chains on the tires but we still gon′ slide
Sun comin' up but we still gon′ hide
But that day came soon cause we all still alive (what)
Friends turned strangers
Life gets stranger
World starts changin but I gotta stay adjacent
Drink every day
Smoke in the rain
Things that we did back home in the basement
()
And I can′t
Fall asleep
Without you laying here next to me
And I can't
Fall asleep
Without you laying here next to me
The opening lines of Bones's song "Backroads" are a commentary on the current state of hip hop culture. He notes that people are more concerned with their fashion sense than their lyrical abilities - "Everybody worried Bout their clothes now, ain't nobody worried bout their flow now." This creates a stark contrast to the rest of the song, which takes on a more nostalgic tone. Bones then goes on to describe his past experiences growing up in a small town, specifically recalling one night out with his friends where they were "really throwin' down," but were still able to find a sense of anonymity - "Turn the song loud, but I hear no sound."
Throughout the song, Bones reflects on his youth spent on the "backroads" - a colloquial term often used to describe less-traveled roads or small towns with little development. He reminisces about driving around with chains on the tires, people and places he's known turning into strangers, and spending rainy days smoking and drinking with his friends in the basement.
Overall, the song speaks to a longing for simpler times and a slower pace of life. Despite the struggles and hardships that come with growing older and facing a changing world, Bones continues to hold onto his memories and find comfort in the familiar.
