Take me back home
Where the grass grows long
And the women are strong
We dedicated a song
For the kids to know what mutsuga piliti
Letlapa the Bongo Maffin rapper
Kihubutsetse mhunu mutapa
Ruta bana huhapa lapa
And still ace the calculus the algebra
The formula for pie and still reach the sky
Badimo kidi blood line that link us to the beginning of time
There are some fabric of space and time
Take me to the sky and release me to fly
I had a area of Harare ironically hardball

The song "Harare" by Bongo Maffin is a celebration of the city of Harare, Zimbabwe. The repeated lines, "Ndoda kuyenda ku Harare" and "Ndoda kugara ku Harare," translate to "I want to go to Harare" and "I want to stay in Harare," respectively. The song expresses a longing for home and the nostalgia of returning to a place with familiar sights and sounds. The lyrics pay homage to the city's culture, history, and people, as well as the band's roots and influences.
The song starts with the chorus repeating the name of the city, building excitement and anticipation for the listener. The verses introduce specific cultural references, such as mutsuga piliti (a type of dance), Letlapa (a Bongo Maffin rapper), and ancient bloodlines linking them to the beginning of time. These references keep the song grounded in Zimbabwean culture while still allowing for a universal theme of longing for a place to call home.
The song also features the lines "Take me to the sky and release me to fly," suggesting a desire for freedom and exploration. This idea is reinforced by the expansive list of other cities in Africa mentioned in the second half of the song, implying a shared connection between these places and their people.
Overall, "Harare" is a powerful ode to hometowns and connections to one's roots. It celebrates Zimbabwean culture while also connecting it to a larger world of African identity.

I saw a video where this man from Zimbabwe said "I feel more at home in South Africa than I do when I am in Zimbabwe."
I am fully aware that Afrika is chopped up into countries with Colonial borders. That fact aside, "charity begins at home."
Bob Marley wasn't just making a song with Afrika Unite. We need to remove these Old Men who occupy political offices. They are derailing our continent's progress. The bulk of Afrika's population is Youth. Why do we allow ourselves to be controlled by Old Men who have no interest in our Future?
We need to revoke the Spirit of Steve Biko, Thomas Sankara, Amilcar Cabral, Frantz Fanon, Patrice Lumumba & begin the war towards our Political & Economic Freedom.

What an accurate musical reflection of God's heart beat when He thinks of Harare. This song feels like being beaten like a drum by thunder and diving into an explosive ocean of colours, that run over your skin like lightening bolts...Bongo Muffin stop...Amen!
