By age 15, McKee was writing songs and performing in the Seattle area. A friend helped get her EP to Nic Harcourt, a popular disc jockey in Los Angeles and host of KCRW's "Morning Becomes Eclectic". He helped spark a major record label bidding war after playing the song "Somebody" on his radio program for several weeks. After signing a recording contract at age 16, she moved to Los Angeles to begin work on her debut album with producer Rob Cavallo. Trouble was commercially released on September 28, 2004.
After ending her recording contract, McKee spent many hours in the recording studio and was introduced to music producer Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald, by her manager. Gottwald had collaborated with McKee's longtime friend Katy Perry on her debut album One of the Boys. They (along with Max Martin and Benny Blanco) began writing songs together, ultimately producing the hits that would appear on Perry's second album, the worldwide multi-platinum, Teenage Dream. The singles "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream" and "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" each topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sold millions of copies around the world. Other successful collaborations between McKee, Gottwald and Martin include Britney Spears' "Hold It Against Me," Taio Cruz's "Dynamite," Rita Ora's "How We Do (Party)," and Katy Perry's singles from Teenage Dream: The Complete Confection, "Wide Awake" and "Part of Me."
McKee recently signed a recording contract as a solo artist with Epic Records, and is currently at work on her second studio album, to be released in summer 2013. The lead single will be "American Girl," which McKee described as a "summer banger". "American Girl" was released in July 2013.

Don't get it twisted
I'm ready to make some noise
How could you play me just like a Nintendo
But don't you know that I'm loco
I came to win win win
Better show me what you got
I came to bring the fire 'cause you know I like it hot
I'm vicious like a viper
And I'm ready to turn it on
Work hard, and so we play hard
You wanna go
You know I'm bringing bombastic
I'm feeling fucking fantastic
Turn up the music, get plastic
You know I'm playing like no more mister nice guy
You know I'm bringing bombastic
I'm feeling fucking fantastic
Turn up the music, get plastic
You know I'm playing like no more mister nice guy
I'm coming for you
You got me revving like a Lamborghini
I got you sweating, yeah victory tastes so sweet
I know you've heard about my reputation
You're gonna need a vacation
I came to win win win
Better show me what you got
I came to bring the fire 'cause you know I like it hot
Going to win win win 'cause I'm full of tiger blood
I'm vicious like a viper
And I'm ready to turn it on
Work hard, and so we play hard
You wanna go
You know I'm bringing bombastic
I'm feeling fucking fantastic
Turn up the music, get plastic
You know I'm playing like no more mister nice guy
I'm bringing bombastic
I'm feeling fucking fantastic
Turn up the music, get plastic
You know I'm playing like no more mister nice guy
I'm coming for you
Work hard
Work hard
Work hard
Work hard
You know I'm bringing bombastic
I'm feeling fucking fantastic
Turn up the music, get plastic
You know I'm playing like no more mister nice guy
I'm bringing bombastic
I'm feeling fucking fantastic
Turn up the music, get plastic
You know I'm playing like no more mister guy
I'm coming for you
No more mister nice guy
I'm coming for you
In Bonnie McKee’s song Bombastic, the lyrics describe a confident and competitive attitude towards achieving success. The opening verse of “I'm on a mission to search and destroy / Don't get it twisted / I'm ready to make some noise” sets the tone for the song. The singer seems determined to succeed and is not afraid to be tough to reach her goals. The metaphor of “you played me like a Nintendo” implies that the singer was seen as disposable or easily replaceable, but the singer will show they are not to be underestimated. The chorus repeats “You know I’m bringing bombastic / I’m feeling fucking fantastic,” which emphasizes the singer’s sense of self-assurance and self-respect.
The line “you’re gonna need a vacation” may imply that the singer is so powerful and commanding that the person they are competing against will need to take a break from the challenge. “You know I’m playing like no more mister nice guy” is an expression of the singer’s toughness and determination. The final line “I’m coming for you” is a declaration of the singer’s intention to win. Overall, the lyrics to Bombastic convey an attitude of assertiveness and confidence in the face of competition.

My favorite part is how very few people in the comments realize how tongue in cheek this is. If you watch American Girl, she's clearly making fun of the over sexualization and extreme visuals of various eras and styles and how today treats things like that.
Also, like someone else said, if this was a well known artist, they'd be all over this. Proof that it's the brand, not the content, considering Bonnie wrote/co-wrote a lot of Katy Perry and other pop stars songs.
This is not even to mention Max Martin, who is basically pop god with how many songs he's produced that are huge hits.
I thought this video was hilarious and fun, very 80's mixed with today's tonality. The upsidown twerking has me laughing everytime, it just looks ridiculous.
There is nothing wrong with any music. People like what they like. I hate rap and country, I don't tell people who listen to it that they have terrible taste or are "ruining todays youth" because that's just history repeating itself. Don't be an old curmudgeon blaming the new generation. Everyone's done that a million times since humans existed. Don't believe me? Look it up for yourself. The generations don't change that much, if almost at all. The next one usually is more educated and lives longer than the last and has to deal with whatever the generation previously set up for them. So shut the F up. When I'm 60 the next generations will be smarter, more educated, more worldly and knowledgeable than I am now.
Back in my day, well, my day SUCKED, everyone's did. Nostalgia is just rose colored glasses.

The reason why i'm so in love with Bonnie is because she clearly is the melody machine behind some of Katys biggest hits (you can ALWAYS recognize a Bonnie song when sung by Katy -> Teenage Dream, Last Friday Night, Birthday etc) , her melodies are some of the best out there and it reflects in her own songwriting even though many people give her hate while she clearly is BEYOND talented.
@Kirtred
I don't think she wrote birthday
@Kirtred
***** true
@nounocares5994
She doesn't write melodies, she's even said herself that she's a lyricist. Max Martin writes the melodies for all of the famous artists' popular songs.
@nounocares5994
I'm not talking about this particular song, I'm talking about all the famous songs she's co-written. They all are involved with Max Martin along with almost all of Taylor Swift's new songs, Britney Spears hits, ALL of Katy Perry's hits (not even just the few that Bonnie co-wrote the lyrics for), all of Ke$ha's hits, and all of most of the super famous artists you hear on the radio today. Plus the song, "Bombastic" is still co-written with like 5 people which means that she probably just did the lyrics. If I find the interview where she specifically says she just co-writes the lyrics I'll send it to you.
@katy-cat
nounocares this is interesting. so basically she mostly wrote lyrics for artist? Those singles wiki page list "songwriter" but not specify lyrics or melody.
@MotherLutalica
honestly this pure 80's aesthetic is giving me life!!
@NostalgiCrazy
Same haha, if it didn't have this type of video I'd hate this nonsense xD
@salrafi4679
Yeah!! xD So nostalgic!! :)
@NostalgiCrazy
So I changed my mind... I actually like the song now LOL. It's catchy as hell and if she were more well known it could've charted well.
