Summer Wine
Bono & The Corrs Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

ANDREA:
Strawberries, cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things

BONO:
I walked in town on silver spurs that jingled to
And sang song that I had only sang to just a few
She saw my silver spurs and said
Let's pass some time
And I will give to you summer wine

BOTH:
Oh-oh summer wine
ANDREA:
Strawberries, cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time
And I will give to you summer wine
BOTH:
Oh-oh summer wine

BONO:
My eyes grew heavy and my lips they could not speak
I tried to get up, but I couldn't find my feet
She reassured me with an unfamiliar line
And then she gave to me more summer wine

BOTH:
Oh-oh summer wine

ANDREA:
Strawberries, cherries and an angel's kiss in spring
My summer wine is really made from all these things
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time
And I will give to you summer wine

BOTH:
Oh-oh summer wine
When we woke up the sun was shining in our eyes
Our silver spurs were gone my head felt twice its size
Who took the silver spurs, a dollar and a dime
And left us cravin' for more summer wine

Oh-oh summer wine
Oh-oh Oh-oh Oh-oh Oh-oh

Overall Meaning

The song "Summer Wine" is a duet sung by Bono and Andrea Corr. The lyrics revolve around the intoxicating effects of love and attraction, often portrayed as a metaphorical wine. The opening line by Andrea, "Strawberries, cherries and an angel's kiss in spring" refers to the sweetness and innocence of the beginning of a relationship. The lyrics also mention "silver spurs," which are typically associated with cowboys and Western movies. The line "My summer wine is really made from all these things" suggests that the combination of these elements is what fuels the passion and excitement of the relationship.

Bono's verse describes his encounter with a woman who is drawn to him because of the jingling silver spurs he is wearing. She suggests they spend time together and enjoy each other's company while drinking summer wine. The lyrics become more sensual and allude to physical intimacy as the night goes on. The final verse suggests that they wake up the next morning, hungover and disoriented, with memories of the passionate night they just had. They are left wondering who took the silver spurs and money, and wanting more of the "summer wine" they shared.

I just heard Ryan Adam's When the Stars go Blue and I have to say sorry Ryan but This version of it by Andrea Corr and Bono knocks yours out of the park. Does anyone agree.? Andrea's and Bono' s version is fantastic. Much much better.

@miguelservetus9534

But Ryan gets bonus points for writing the song.

@@miguelservetus9534 Hi Miguel. With great respect to you and Ryan. Yeah Ryan did write the song and yes he certainly deserves credit for it. It's a a great song but I still think Andrea and Bono made a better job singing that song. Let's put it this way they all deserve credit. This is the one time that I think the original artist is outdone singing his own song. Usually nobody can knock the original and nobody can top it. Usually I'm all for the original just not this time. I still think Andrea and Bono knocked spots off his version. But I have to hand great credit to Ryan for the songwriting. I say this with great respect to you and to Ryan himself. He'll always be the songwriter and will always receive credit for it. But a lot of songwriters do hand over some songs they write to somebody else. Like Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbrokers wrote Boys of Summer and I loved that song but he handed it over to Don Henley and he made a fantastic job of it and it was a great hit for Don Henley but Mikd Cambell is and always will be the songwriter. Nobody can take that away fro m him. But he knows he did the right thing in giving that song to Don Henley otherwise it probably would never be heard of and let's face it that would h azccc ve been a great shame. What I'm saying is Ryan might have been better to give that to Andrea and Bono. And still get the credit and maybe more as the songwriter. Sometimes you might have to make sacrifices for your "baby"to let it grow. Thanks for replying. Take care of yourself Miguel. Love and God bless Susan 👍😀💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏
