The Keeper
Bonobo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know she said,
That I don't need her,
cause everytime I call,
she's sitting sweeter,

I know she said,
to get near her,
but I'm feeling cold,
and I must leave her.

Sat down here with my head hung down
and I just seem to find
a bit of peace,
a bit of love,
a bit of something left behind.

Sat down here best intentions,
nothing said, nothing lied,
a bit of peace,
a bit of love,
a bit of something left inside.

And my heart's content,
I say that to please her,
happiness is on her face,
it's not mine that greets her,
only my disgrace,
to admit I need her,
but we all fall from grace,
dust me down and keep her.

Sat down here with my head hung down
and I just seem to find
a bit of peace,
a bit love,
a bit of something left behind.

Sat down here best intentions,
nothing said, nothing lied,
a bit of peace,
a bit of love,
a bit of something left inside.

We shall go on in this embrace,
Cause we can't go on living this way.

We'll be like one (unintelligible)
Cause we can't go on living this way.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Bonobo's song The Keeper featuring Andreya Triana depict a complex relationship between the singer and their partner. The song is about a couple whose relationship is on the rocks, and the singer expresses their confusion and pain about whether to leave or stay. The first verse reveals that the singer's partner has told them that they don't need her and that she is always unavailable when they call. Despite this, the singer admits that he wants to get closer to her but feels as if she is the one who is withdrawn.

In the second verse, the singer is "sat down here with my head hung down," seeking some form of solace or clarity. Despite his "best intentions," he can't seem to express his feelings to his partner, so he just sits and contemplates his emotions. The verse ends with him finding "a bit of peace, a bit of love, a bit of something left inside," implying that he has some hope for the relationship.

In the chorus, the singer tries to convince himself that he is content without his partner, but only his "disgrace" and admission of needing her greets her. The final verse ends with the couple embracing and accepting that they can't continue to live their lives without each other, despite their differences and personal struggles. The song's lyrics effectively communicate the complications and turmoil that can arise in a failing relationship and the hesitancy to let go.

Im a massage Therapist and i first heard this song while massaging a client. I was like what the fuck just happen to my ears, no lie i look for this song for weeks.
I was watching commercial for Shazam and i download the app just to get this song. I literally waited weeks for this song to come back on in the spa. Remember spa music is random off a list we dont have access to but i finally got it and it was worth it.
