Airplanes
Boyce Avenue Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

-Alejandro-

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

-DeStorm-

I could use a wish or a genie or a tinkerbell
To find my never ever land to save me from this hell
Can't go back to the that one room shack
Where the floor met the mattress, or the door with the latches
Before all the actors, the models and stuffs,
Before all the clubs, the bottles, the cups,
We swore we would practice, and ignore all the sadness
Hold onto our wish, even when if they think it is madness
Whatcha gonna do when your wish shows up
So many saw their chance and they just froze up
So Airlane airplane, don't leave that runway
I got my ticket, and I swear it's a one way.

-Alejandro-

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars (shooting stars)
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars (shooting stars)
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

-DeStorm-

Can somebody take me back in time
When it was nothing but survival on the mind
Working odd jobs, just to hustle for a dime
Didn't work considering living a life of crime
Back when I was working Pom Pie's Chicken, but my rhymes still kicking
Saving up the cash, so that I can take a trip in
Going to a..(Still unclear)..bus, four hours still wasn't trippin'
Back when I pushed that demo and they simply wouldn't listen
But that all ceased, I reserved my seat
I angle with the turbulence, I'm back in one piece
You see that airplane that's parked on the runway
Before it takes off, make sure you get your one day

-Alejandro-

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars (shooting stars)
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars (shooting stars)
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

-DeStorm-

I could really use a wish right now (Oh)
I I
I could really use a wish right now
Like like
Like shooting stars (Ooh)
I I
I could really use a wish right now

A wish right now
A wish right now

Overall Meaning

The Boyce Avenue song "Airplanes" is a collaboration with DeStorm Power, which uses airplanes as a metaphor for making a wish upon a shooting star. The lyrics of the song speak about the struggles of the artists before they became successful and how they wished for a better life. The first verse sung by Alejandro Manzano, the lead vocalist of Boyce Avenue, tells how he needs a wish, and then he asks if they can pretend that airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars. He then repeats these lines multiple times, stressing the need for a wish.

DeStorm’s verse then follows and he speaks about his own struggles and his wish for a better life. He also asks if someone can take him back to when he was working odd jobs and hustling for a dime, but he still had the desire to succeed. He talks about how he persevered despite the hardships and how he reserved his seat on the airplane that would take him to success.

The chorus is then repeated three times, with both singers harmonizing to give the song a sense of unity. It’s a hopeful song that speaks to anyone who is struggling and needs to make a wish or has a dream. The airplane metaphor used throughout the song is one commonly used by songwriters and poets to represent a journey or a quest for fulfillment.

Everyone complaining about DeStorm changing the rap, it's obvious he wanted to tell his own story in the verses, not the story of some other rapper, so I think it's great he wrote his own verses, made it his own
