Love Drunk
Boys Like Girls Lyrics

(Hey, hey, hey, hey)

The top down in the summer sun
The day we met was like a hit an run
And I still taste it on my tongue (taste it on my tongue)
The sky was burning up like fireworks
You made me want you, oh, so bad it hurt
But girl, in case you haven't heard

I used to be love drunk but now I'm hungover
I'll love you forever, forever is over
We used to kiss all night, now it's just a bar fight
So don't call me crying, say hello to goodbye (oh, yeah)
'Cause just one sip (oh, yeah)
Would make me sick
I used to be love drunk but now I'm hungover
I'll love you forever but now it's over
(Hey, hey, hey, hey)
(Hey, hey, hey, hey)

Hot sweat and blurry eyes
We're spinning 'round a roller coaster ride
The world stuck in black and white (stuck in black and white)
You drove me crazy every time we touched
Now I'm so broken that I can't get up
Oh girl, you make me such a lush

I used to be love drunk but now I'm hungover
I'll love you forever, forever is over
We used to kiss all night, now it's just a bar fight
So don't call me crying, say hello to goodbye (oh, yeah)
'Cause just one sip (oh, yeah)
Would make me sick
I used to be love drunk but now I'm hungover
I'll love you forever but now its over

All the time I wasted on you
All the bullshit you put me through
Checking into rehab 'cause everything we had
Didn't mean a thing to you

I used to be love drunk but now I'm hungover
I'll love you forever but now I'm sober

I used to be love drunk but now I'm hungover
I'll love you forever, forever is over
We used to kiss all night, now it's just a bar fight
So don't call me crying, say hello to goodbye (oh, yeah)

'Cause just one thing (oh, yeah)
Would make me say
I used to be love drunk but now I'm hungover
I'll love you forever but now its over

Now it's over

Now it's over (still taste it on my tongue)
Now it's over

Overall Meaning

The song "Love Drunk" by Boys Like Girls is a lament of a failed relationship. The singer talks about the first day he met the girl and how their whirlwind romance began. They used to be passionately in love, but now it’s only a bitter memory of a love-drunk fool who was relentlessly chasing his girl. He talks about how her touch would drive him crazy and how their world was spinning in absolute happiness. But eventually, there was a breakdown, which led them to a point where the singer has completely given up, and he’s checking into rehab trying to forget her.

The lyrics have a melancholic undertone. The chorus “I used to be love drunk, But now I'm hungover, I'll love you forever, Forever is over” repeats the idea that the relationship has left him with nothing but a hangover. Also, the lyrics have a lot of alcohol references, which may indicate that the singer's relationship was toxic.

The song is both nostalgic and insightful. It gives a bittersweet feeling about a relationship's end and how we can learn from our mistakes, so we don't repeat the same patterns in future relationships. The melody is quite catchy, enhancing the lyrics' impact, making it popular amongst Boys Like Girls' listeners.

i was 19 years old when this came out... and now i'm 30. still jamming to this

@richchappell

I'm 51 and still jamming to it. I miss the 2000-2010 emo pop/punk sound. What really sells me on this video is the guy wearing a Ratt concert t-shirt. They were my favorite hair metal band from the '80s. Best concert ever (for me)... Ratt with Kix and Britney Fox opening at the Toledo Sports Arena on my 20th birthday in 1989. FOB at Celebrity Theater in Phoenix in December 2005 was also very good. That was the first time I heard "Yule Shoot Your Eye Out" (acoustic with only Patrick Stump on stage). Brilliant!

Thank You, Boys Like Girls, for coming to The Philippines!!!

@jainesivancarvajal39

Lost hope for years because there was little to no chance of them playing together again let alone coming to Ph, but last year the odds were in our favor!! Definitely the best night of my life watching them play live for the first time!!!!

@Martin-117

Who can agree the early 2000s was the peak of great music, movies, and just about everything that made life so simple. Cheers to us 80's and 90s folks

@elivile.

As someone who was born in the 90s, yes. Just yes.
