From the acclaimed 1976 album. (Grammy nominee) That also yielded his biggest hit, “Lowdown”.
One of the odd songs where the title (“Lido Shuffle”) never appears in the lyrics.
The shuffle is a dance beat, the rhythm, but in this song it can also refer to shuffling cards, part of the gambling theme.

But that was all he missed
And he ain't comin' back
At a tombstone bar, in a juke joint car he made a stop
Just long enough to grab a handle off the top
Next stop Chi town, Lido put the money down, let 'em roll
One last shot 'fore we quit it
One for the road
Lido
Whoah oh oh oh
He's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's waitin' for the go, Lido
Whoah oh oh oh oh oh
He said one more job ought to get it
One last shot 'fore we quit it
One more for the road
Lido will be runnin', havin' great big funnin' till he got the note
Sayin' toe the line or blow it and that was all she wrote
He'll be makin' like a bee line, headin' for the border line, goin' for broke
Sayin' one more hit ought to do it
This joint ain't nothin' to it
One more for the road
Lido
Whoah oh oh oh
He's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's waitin' for the go, Lido
Whoah oh oh oh oh oh
One more job ought to get it
One last shot then we quit it
One more for the road
Lido
Woah oh oh oh
He's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's waitin' for the go, Lido
Woah oh oh oh oh oh
One more job ought to get it
The lyrics to Boz Scaggs's song "Lido Shuffle" tell the story of Lido, a man who is always on the lookout for his next big opportunity. At the beginning of the song, Lido is planning his next move after missing his chance to leave town. He stops at a bar and steals a bottle of alcohol before heading to Chicago with plans to make one last score before retiring. Throughout the song, Lido is focused on his goal of making money and having a good time, but ultimately he receives a reality check in the form of a warning that he must toe the line or lose everything.
The lyrics of "Lido Shuffle" can be interpreted as a cautionary tale about the pursuit of wealth and pleasure at all costs. Lido is consumed by the desire to make one last score and is willing to risk everything to achieve his goal. The lyric "he's for the money, he's for the show" suggests that Lido is not motivated by any deeper purpose or meaning in his life. In the end, Lido must decide whether to continue down the path he has chosen or to change his ways and live a more balanced life.

Lido missed the boat that day, he left the shack
But that was all he missed, and he ain't comin' back
At a tombstone bar in a juke joint car, he made a stop
Just long enough to grab a handle off the top
Next stop, Chi-town, Lido put the money down, let it roll
He said, "One more job oughta get it
One last shot 'fore we quit it
One for the road"
Lido, whoa, oh-oh-oh
He's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's a-waitin' for the go
Lido, whoa, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh
He said, "One more job oughta get it
One last shot 'fore we quit it
One more for the road"
Lido be runnin', havin' great big fun until he got the note
Saying, "Tow the line or blow it, " and that was all she wrote
He be makin' like a beeline headin' for the border line, goin' for broke
Sayin', "One more hit oughta do it
This joint, ain't nothin' to it
One more for the road"
Lido, whoa, oh-oh-oh
He's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's a-waitin' for the go
Lido, whoa, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
"One more job oughta get it
One last shot, then we quit it
One more for the road"
Lido, whoa, oh-oh-oh
He's for the money, he's for the show
Lido's a-waitin' for the go
Lido, whoa, oh-oh-oh, oh-oh-oh-oh
"One more job oughta get it"

I'm 53. I dislike earbuds. But sometimes I pretend I'm listening to music when I'm walking down the street and my brain randomly gives me a jewel like this.
😂
That's what made me look it up here, today.

1977. I was ten years old and my oldest brother got his driver's license and inherited Dad's cherished '73 Trans Am. Timmy was the most popular boy at school and the greatest big brother ever, and unlike his friends, relished in letting his kid brother tag along everywhere he went. I had a permanent spot in the co-pilot seat of that T/A as we ran the roads of the Lehigh Valley with this song blasting out of the 8-track...
@peterhoare3219
LOVE IT!!!! Trans Ams are RARE in Australia. I rode in one once. It was magnificent. Let's be honest, they are a crap car, but gees they look good. And epitome of The American Dream in the 70s
