Mother Nature's son
All day long I'm sitting singing songs for everyone.
Sit beside a mountain stream
See her waters rise
Listen to the pretty sound of music as she flies.
Mother Nature's son
Swaying daises sing a lazy song beneath the sun.
Mother Nature's son.
The lyrics to Brad Mehldau's song Mother Nature paints a picture of an individual who can be likened to a poor young country boy. He is a singer-songwriter who spends his day writing and singing songs for anyone willing to listen. He is one with nature, as he sits beside a mountain stream and sees the waters rise while listening to the pretty sounds of music made by the flowing water. This gives him joy, as he is continually in awe of the beauty of nature.
In the second stanza, we see the singer in a field of grass, where he again observes nature around him. The swaying daisies sing a lazy song beneath the sun as the singer immerses himself in nature's surroundings. This brings him pleasure as he sees the beauty of Mother Nature. The song generally celebrates the beauty of nature and the joy it brings to someone who appreciates it.
