He lived in Chicago in his childhood, and then later settled in Southern California. Wilk started to play the drums when he was 13 years old and got his first kit when he was 14. After placing an advertisement in a local newspaper Wilk joined Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, and Zach De La Rocha to form Rage Against the Machine. They went on to release four albums before breaking up in 2000. Wilk, Morello and Commerford went on to form Audioslave with former Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell. Brad is a Buddhist, and is seen by many as being very grounded and compassionate. He is also a Type 1 Diabetic, and has said in a recent interview with Countdown magazine, that if he were not making music, he would be finding a cure for the disease.

Brad's success as the drummer of Rage Against the Machine came from the failure of a different band; he once auditioned for a band called Lock Up, who released one album (titled Somethin' Bitchin' This Way Comes) through Geffen records in 1989 and broke up when the album received little media attention upon release. Former Lock Up guitarist Tom Morello was looking to pick up where Lock Up left off and start a new band, and called up Brad to see if he was interested in playing the drums. A short while after, the duo met Zack de la Rocha, a rapper, and through de la Rocha met bassist Tim Commerford (a childhood friend of Zack's) and Rage Against the Machine was born.

When Zack De La Rocha left Rage Against the Machine in late 2000, Brad and the two remaining members, Tom Morello and Tim Commerford, opted to stay together to form a new rock band. Producer Rick Rubin suggested they have a jam session with former Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell. The meeting was an immediate success and they subsequently formed a band called Civilian, which was later renamed Audioslave. Brad Wilk has been the drummer of Audioslave since its formation in 2001.

I stumbled upon this with so much excitement and unfortunately this is one of the very rare occurrences where too much awesomeness destroyed something that could've been epic. And as amazing as everyone involved is, they should've put egos aside and let Maynard have these vocals. He's probably the one man there with the least desire to dominate and it shows. He mumbled along like a heathen singing hymns in church. And no disrespect AT ALL to anyone else on that stage, but his voice was perfect for this song. I'm just so hurt that I couldn't even hear his voice at all and if it weren't for that hat, I wouldn't believe he was even on that stage.

Because these excellent musicians have more understanding about-- and respect for-- great music than you will ever have. U2 is one of the few bands from our time that will be remembered hundreds of years from now-- alongside The Beatles, Stones, and Zeppelin.

"Streets" is a really, really difficult song to pull off. It starts in 6/8 time and the vocals are quite high. That being said I think they did a pretty good job. I always enjoy watching other musicians show some love to a legendary band like U2. I bet Bono and the boys would be humbled.

That's what I always say:
There are many people who hear many bands and they neither that imagine their favorite bands hear U2. I'm glad of that, because I like U2 and although they not often agree with the ideals of U2, the great musicians who care and study to develop they think the same, most of the time.

Well any good band that has their sound and tone dialed in is going to be extremely difficult to cover. Definitely agree there. I know because I tried converting "Parabol" by Tool to an acoustic cover, being one of their softer songs. I was wrong, it needs every single instrument to sound right. My 'criteria' is being judged off of a couple of MY favorite vocalists, and what I know they're capable of. Not bashing U2's integrity as a band in any way.

Well, your criteria is whatever your criteria is, I guess. I focus on the overall sound. These guys are good musicians-- it's just that U2's sound is difficult to pull off. The Edge may play fairly simple riffs, but he gets his tone dialed in like no one else. Bono has a true tenor voice which is rare for male singers in rock and roll. If you're going to cover a U2 song, you need a couple of weeks to work on it. In my experience, playing a U2 song "off the cuff" almost never works out well.

All that botching you say they're doing, and that ENERGY from the band, is again all subjective. I'm talking about the overall key signatures of SOAD, Tool, and U2, and how far each singer pushed the highs and lows of those keys. (octaves/harmonies/climatic screams etc.)

Because it's easily within their range? lol The guitar player can't play the riff like The Edge, the singers can't get anywhere near Bono's tenor voice, and overall it's just too slow-- not enough energy. Go see U2 live and you'll finally understand the meaning of the word ENERGY.
