Broken Heart
Brain And Lee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've been sitting here for far too long
And the jukebox just played our favorite song
I tell the bartender a joke
So she'll think I'm fine, but I'm really dying inside

I remember the look upon her face
And the last thing that I ever heard her say
When she said goodbye
And walked away I knew

At the corner of Third and lonely near the gates of hell
Climbing into the bottle at the Broken Hearts Motel
Tell her if she calls here that I'm doing real well
Drowning in the bottle at the Broken Hearts Motel

While I'm talking here with Jack and gin
Wonderin why these thoughts ain't sinking in
Some people try to ask me on my way
And like the sun I'm gone and back the next day

As the whiskey slowly enters my veins
The thought of you is all that remains
When you said goodbye and walked away I knew

At the corner of Third and lonely near the gates of hell
Climbing into the bottle at the Broken Hearts Motel
Tell her if she calls here that I'm doing real well
Drowning in the bottle at the Broken Hearts Motel

How can I hold on if I can't hold you
How can I blame lies if what they said was true

At the corner of Third and lonely near the gates of hell
Climbing into the bottle at the Broken Hearts Motel
Tell her if she calls here that I'm doing real well
Drowning in the bottle, drowning in the bottle

Tell her if she calls here that I'm doing real well
Drowning in the bottle at the Broken Hearts Motel

(I need you to know I love you and I always will
But we weren't made for this world
In my life you were heaven
And I'll meet you at the gates of hell)

The people come and go before I'm gone
The see my face and they keep moving on

Overall Meaning

The song "Broken Heart" by Brain and Lee tells the story of a heartbroken person who is drowning his sorrows in alcohol at the Broken Hearts Motel. The opening lines suggest that he has been sitting there for a long time, listening to his favorite song on the jukebox. He tries to put on a brave face by joking with the bartender, but deep down he is in pain. He remembers the last time he saw his love, when she walked away and said goodbye. The singer is reminded of his heartbreak every time he takes a sip of whiskey, and he cannot shake off his feelings of loss and despair. The second half of the song is more existential, as the singer ponders the meaning of his life without his love. He asks how he can hold on without her and how he can trust anyone again. The chorus repeats the image of him "drowning in the bottle" at the Broken Hearts Motel, a haunting metaphor for his misery and loneliness.

The lyrics of "Broken Heart" are emotive and poignant, capturing the pain of lost love and the struggle to move on. The imagery of the Broken Hearts Motel, located near the "gates of hell", adds a layer of darkness and foreboding to the story. However, the song is also a celebration of love and the power it has over us. The singer's love for his ex-partner is unwavering, even as he acknowledges that they were not meant for this world. The song encourages listeners to embrace their emotions, even when they are painful, and to value the people who bring love and light into their lives.

Ok ya'll.. I commented on this video 8 months ago. I was going through s hard break up. I lost myself completely. I was watching break up videos and motivating videos everyday. I actually ended up finding my new boyfriend during these 8 months and starting my first year of college. Im a lot happier than I have ever been. So 8 months later... im here to tell you all that it gets better!! Focus on you and your goals and girl you got this!!! Im thankful for videos like this one.
Edit: I should have mentioned that my boyfriend now treats me amazing, and I have definitely found my future husband. Keep your chin up, and think positive. I know its easier said then done, but I didnt find my boyfriend and my happiness over night. I decided to start to make productive goals for myself (like attend college) and sort out my mental health issues. This is when I started to see progress in my life, and I became happy with myself and started to love myself. Thats when I found my boyfriend. He showed me that I am an amazing person, with a purpose. I encourage you all to put YOU first, and let god do the rest
