Well, after having 3 careers, being a mom may look like a blessing. But if one couldn't pursue a career because they have to take care of children , one may feel differently. My wife had to take a long break because of 2 children (with no support system), and she was eager to get back to work. But the job market looks at any break negatively. Finally she had to accept a position for less than half the pay she was getting earlier. She is obviously not happy.

I'm a mother of 3 and was looking forward to them all being in school so I could go back to work but then realized schools are just getting worse.. so I once again gave up my career aspirations to homeschool and still stay home. I also started my own eBay business. I love doing what I do, and I wouldn't change it. My kids are crazy but such a blessing, this stage is not forever enjoy it while you can❤

A few years ago the top fertility expert in the country, a woman, wrote an article telling women , if possible, to have their children as early as they can and showed figures on how when they get to their late 20s /early 30s their chances of getting start to down turn and byvthe time they are mid to late 30s/ early 40s the chances start to go over a cliff.
She explained she was writing the article because she was fed up sitting across a desk from disappointed couples, explaining the facts of lifevto them and she wanted them to have the facts before them so they could make an informed choice. Go earlier and stand a better chance or try later and chance disappointment but at least know that is what they are doing.
Well, the skies fell in. Feminist lobby groups were calling for her head. She may be the expert in her field but the politics meant more than the facts

This is an important conversation. I live in woke Canada. 3 days ago we had a young man, about 36, come to do an estimate for some work. As we were standing in the kitchen out of the blue he said, my wife and I don't want kids. No reason for such a statement. I told him having children is a life time commitment and if he felt he couldn't take that on, don't. I did tell him if he changes his mind time was running out for his wife who is older than him. Having children is never easy but nothing in life beats it. My husband and I married as teenagers but we have beat the stats and are in our 54th year of marriage. Our son is 50 and we have two grandsons, 26 and 22. God is good.

@ But you've got to remember that at 35+, they're speaking from experience. There are a LOT of useless men out there, and they've come up against their fair share of them. AND they are very aware that they're running out of time and they might have to settle for someone they are okay being in a relationship with, but who doesn't have the character or responsibility to raise children. She's just telling you how it is. If you can't acknowledge that and stick around long enough to show her you are the kind of man she'd want to have children with, you're just proving her point. @ There's no expectation that you should date someone who doesn't want children or is on the fence and might say no. If that's a deal breaker for you, that's a deal breaker. But someone who says they would want children IF the right person comes along is telling you that they DO want children, but they're trying to be realistic that they might not find someone they would want to have children with, and they would rather end up married and childless than single and childless. A LOT of men run away from women who say children are a priority for them, because they're afraid of being used by a woman to get pregnant and demand child support. She thinks you need to hear that YOU are her first priority, not any potential children. She's trying to not scare you off.

I was talking about this last night with my husband. It was most certainly brainwashing from media and from older women. For some time I thought I was a failure because I didn’t prioritize career over marriage and kids. Some of my girl friends were tough on me too, like, I needed to be able to stand on my own financially. Now, I am close to 40s and have a beautiful family. Many of my friends have passed the age to have kids, some have been trying since they were 36, with no success….

I'm pregnant at 43, but the road was not easy and took longer than I'd hoped. Thankfully I had thr realization that I needed a family when I was still in my 30s, so I was able to have a son at 39 and soon a daughter. I used to teach college kids, and the amount of girls saying they didn't want kids was staggering. I just hoped they don't wait as long as I did if they change their mind.

A few years ago I met a 20 year old girl who had her tunes tied because she claimed she would never want kids. It's really sad knowing the tears she will have in the future when she grows up and realizes her mistake. Doctors should not be able to do life altering procedures when there is no medical benefit, especially on the young.

I am a 41 year old woman without children. I was molested at 7 years old by a teacher over the entire school year. I am possibly also on the spectrum as I have masculine personality traits but I have never been diagnosed but I don’t have a strong mothering urge for infants. They give me a lot of anxiety as I’m sensitive to noise. Constant noise is like torture to me. I like talking to older children and teenagers though. My husband and I tried to adopt a family member in need but it didn’t work out and it broke my heart. I never thought I should have children because I genuinely thought when I was younger that I would be a bad mother and I didn’t want to ruin someone else’s life because of the trauma I experienced and the resentment I may feel for them as babies. No child should have that. I would like to have grown children now though, but I’m not sure what else I could have done.

Thing is that is what people tell you. The negatives. Once upon a time you might (you collectively not individually) have been told this and thought well tough I'm still having kids but these days folks buy into it. Having your own children is absolutely nothing like dealing with other people's children. I hated being around kids when I was younger. My friend had 2 at 18 and 21 and I spent a lot of time with her. I remember thinking I'm never having kids! But then I did at 23 and it was completely different.

Having children unfortunately is no guarantee of not being lonely in your old age. I live in Florida. So many retirees bought houses down here hoping children and grandchildren would come visit - but that rarely ever happens. My elderly mother lived with me for five years. The stories from the AIDES who took care of her were heartbreaking... So many elderly here whose children and grandchildren have forsaken them. Even children who live in the same town don't visit mom or dad in the nursing home, much less take an active part in overseeing their care. It's tragic. But please don't have children because you think you'll have someone in your old age to care for you or even be there, because chances are you will be barking up the wrong tree.

An additional contributing factor is it takes longer for a couple to get financially secure enough to believe they can support a child. I don't hear that discussed enough. You don't have to be financially secure to have children but most of the intelligent adults who actually plan things out will want to be in a good position before they start a family. Its harder to do now then it was in the past. Houses are much more expensive and wages haven't really kept up. Fortunately the cost of labour is going to have to go up unless AI makes a large amount of us redundant.

I think brainwashed is the right word here. How can you be encouraged to forget something you never knew in the first place? So many people have never been taught (or learned from seeing it in person) the value of having a family. Women have also been led to believe that they have plenty of time to establish a career and then have kids later. They’re not told that the chances of conceiving go down while the chances of having a miscarriage or of the child having a birth defect increase the older a woman is. And they don’t realize that when they’re older it may be harder to pick up a squirmy two year old or keep up with the schedule of a busy parent. There’s a greater chance of having back or knee problems or other health issues by then.

There's always adoption. 7 years into marriage and we likely still will not want kids for another 5 years. We have talked about adopting older kids. It's sad people don't think about the kids in foster care systems. They matter too. And if you are pro life like I am, if couples are financially able, they should make every effort to adopt. Why have 5 bio kids when you can foster to adopt? This is what pro lifers need to promote, adoption and reforming the system so it is easier to adopt.

There is a need for foster parents, but there is huge competition to adopt children. The wait is like 7 years and most people get rejected on their home study. The goal for foster is reunification with their bio parents, so if you want children it is the wrong approach. The only area of adoption there is a need is embryo adoption. Internationally there is a need as well, but that has its own issues because children will be put up for adoption but they are in some cases just sold and trafficked or kidnapped to sell as adoptable children to westerners.

Giving advice is so easy ... and life is sooo difficult. I had a child at 40 not because I was indoctrinated, simply because for the first time in my life I had a stable job. Even so I got chastised by my gynecologist for waiting for so long. I concieved very easily, had a great pregnancy and a healthy baby. This is to show you how much things have changed and how important those who influence us are. Even as a child, I knew with every fiber of my being that I wanted children. I come from a big family and I now have a big one of my own. I can recall so many people telling me to 'slow down' or that I was crazy or that my husband was crazy to give in to me. Now that my children have grown into young adults, I hear complements about how well they came out. Some say that I am 'lucky' they are so respectful, but I know it was the hard work my husband and I put into their lives. And I feel assured as to the future because they help me now with my own elderly mother (who lives with me). I'll be completely honest and admit that it wasn't easy, and there were hard times but if I was to do it again, I wouldn't change a thing. If fact when I'm asked if I wished to have more I say: If money and pain were not an issue (unfortunately, I had to have a C-section for each one), I would have had many more. I am grateful to God and my parents for leading me in the right way.

I got married at 19 and had my two girls at 22 and 25. I told everyone I having all my children before thirty and I did. I am so glad because my health started to go haywire in the years after. Everything worked out finally. But I am glad I did not wait. I love my family.❤️

I do see the importance of kids, but I know I wouldn't be a good dad, cause I don't want children at all. And I had this feeling since always. Not my brother though. He is older than me and has two. And it's okay.

So don't worry. There are people who want it but have been brainwashed and there are people like us who know that we don't want children.

It's funny how you hear arguments about regrets of having no children so often but we barely ever hear of the women who regret having children. It's easy to conclude that there simply are few of them. I think the reality is that society deems it morally questionable for a mother to regret having her kids so most will suffer in silence. She can have a severe depression from the responsibilities or stress and people will expect her to deal with it.

Yes there are those who make the decision based on ideology. Just as there are many women who feel they have to have children "or else".

There are plenty of people who simply feel they are not up to the task or could not give the child what it needs. Mentally or financially. I don't think they should be shamed for it.

They told us as girls that we needed to graduate college, get a career, then find a husband, buy a home and then have kids and if you had kids any earlier than that you f'd up. That's led my generation to having more children with disabilities because of geriatric pregnancy and couples needing IVF, only having one child. It wasn't easy but I had my kids at 25 and 27 years old and I don't regret it.

I had my first child at 42! I was sitting in the pediatrician’s office and there was a woman in her 60’s whose daughter was graduating high school. So yes it can happen at that age. It not easy but then what is. Adoption is also an important part.

I had my first child at 42. That was 22 years ago. The medical industry treated me like a freak. They kept insisting I have amnio. Back then you could read your chart when they left it and it was in big block letters on every page that I refused. I refused because it didn't matter.. I wasn't going to abort no matter what. And frankly I was more healthy than the 25-year roads in the waiting room you had all kinds of ailments expecially gestational diabetes. Mine just graduated from college and is making a great career. Now I regret not having 2.

What percentage of women won’t become moms without shelling out loads of money for fertility treatments (which may include donor eggs), by waiting until 44/45 or even 47/48 to try to conceive?

I had a child at almost 44. She was our fifth and last. I had my first at 27. I had fertility issues d/t years of birth control. We used zero birth control after the first child. So, Except for our 3rd who was born w/in 24 months of #2, it took 4 or more years to conceive and carry my children to term. We lost two in those 17 years. I always wanted 7. Now, I have school aged children and grandchildren with, hopefully, many more to come!!!

I feel the same. Never had nor have the desire, no regrets either. I have 3 gorgeous horses who i shower with love and affection, and who give me so much love in return. There are many who feel the way we do. I've heard at least 2 talk shows on the the topic in the past 6 months (i dont listen very much at all though, so there may have been more)

Not everyone is called to parenthood. A lot of Catholics seem to have forgotten that celibacy was a cornerstone of the church, because it meant there were people without family obligations who had the time/freedom to step in to serve their community. That used to fall to priests, monks, and nuns, but with the monastic life evaporating and priests spread so thin, that work is going to fall to people who are single or married-without-kids.

i have always argued having children that late is not fair to the child. my father was 39 when he had me and i spent my tweens and teens raking care of him because of all his health problems. i never got to be a normal kid with a father that was young and healthy and i swore i would never do that to a kid.

I think encouraged is the best word. Some people have this perception of kids due to their experience, or perhaps even a perception of themselves, and that perception is amplified. Throughout our lives we all have perceptions about the world, some of which will compete. When they do, the thought, idea, perception, that is loudest, or most reinforced by the world wins out.

It is natural to have some doubts about your capacity. It is healthy even. Ive wondered whether I would make a good parent. I certainly didnt have the best, and maybe some of that is hereditary. Nobody is ever truly a clean slate. I hope I can be a good father.

Actress Monica Bellucci had her first child at 42 and her second child at 46. My ex boss 51 years old was awakened by his loving wife of 49 to announce she was pregnant. These are anomalies but are a lot more prevalent than folks know.

It’s harder to get pregnant after 30. But, even if, it happens…it’s way harder to recover from pregnancy post 20’s. It takes, an obvious and understandable, toll on women. It adds years to them to be frank. But, better late than never👍

my wife was 26 and I was 24 when our 1st daughter came in 2008. I must say it was just the perfect age to get kids. wouldn't want to be any older than mid twenties when having kids. being older just makes it more difficult.

but be warned. establishment and society punish people for having kids. it's the best ever but they're making it very difficult nowadays for families.
nevertheless, I encourage anyone to have kids and go find their true purpose in life.

It has never really been a "good world" to be having children in. Would you rather have a child in a forest living off of daily hunting, no modern medicine? That lifestyle has it's beauty as well maybe it's easier for the mind than the modern world but it's very hard for the body. . If you are a good father you can raise children who will win in this world as well. . Find job for them that's filled with tasks they like to do and they will like their jobs. Don't look for a job with a nice title for them..
