Dawn
Brand of Sacrifice Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hatred is where you turn when you can't face your grief

There's anger, there's grief, and then comes hatred
Born from the torment of my experience
Unparalleled brutality
Make way for the restoration

Lifeless one impaled the Dragon Slayer
Suffering at the blast of hell
I will struggle on
This is a manifestation of everything I don't want to be
I don't want to be
This is a manifestation of everything I don't want to be

There is
Anger and hate
There is
A choice I have to make
There is
Anger and hate

Why the fuck does it have to be this way?
Why does it have to be this way?

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Brand of Sacrifice's song Dawn seem to explore the theme of the aftermath of trauma and the different emotions that come along with it. The beginning of the song suggests that when someone is faced with grief they often turn to hatred as a coping mechanism. The lyrics express the idea that hatred is a way to avoid dealing with the pain and sometimes there is a choice that has to be made between anger/hate and some other way of dealing with the situation. The next verse makes references to a violent event that was experienced firsthand, an event that was so brutal that it caused the birth of hatred in the singer. The line "Make way for the restoration" then suggests that perhaps the singer is planning some sort of revenge or attack in order to "restore" their sense of justice. The final lines "This is a manifestation of everything I don't want to be" and "Why the fuck does it have to be this way?" suggest that the singer is struggling with their emotions and doesn't want to become consumed by hate, but feels like they have no choice in the matter.

The lyrics of Dawn are heavy and emotional, reflecting the nature of the topic at hand. The idea of trauma and its aftermath is explored deeply in the song. The lyrics also seem to be an attempt to give voice to the negative emotions people experience following a traumatic event, such as anger and hatred. The song seems to be urging the listeners to be aware of the potential consequences of their actions and to try to find a way to deal with difficult emotions without resorting to violence or hatred.

This is still my favorite track on the whole album...good god all the changes in this are such a rollercoaster; and that opening "hatred is where you turn when you can't face your grief..." line is phenomenal.

Best song on the album. Every section brings something to the party without getting boring. It's a nice explosion. 58 seconds in feels really unique as well.

I wish the album was a bunch of these 2 minute bangers.
