Going Nowhere
Break Even Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Destination disappointment, all aboard a train going fucking no where
But it's all I have, it's the only way to get away and still dream
So many people have come and gone, why am I the only one left?
Why am I still holding on? Is this why I'm all alone?
I'm watching the train pass me by,
I'm slowly finding my way
My way without you
It's time I open my eyes,
And tell myself, some dreams don't last
Some dreams don't last
I'm sorry I couldn't last forever
I can't live in the past forever
I can't live your life
I won't live your life
The lyrics of Break Even's song Going Nowhere depict a person who is feeling disillusioned and stagnant in their life. The song speaks about a train leaving town at midnight, taking people on a journey towards disappointment and aimlessness, which is a metaphorical representation of the singer's own life. The train is a symbol of escape for the singer, despite knowing that they will end up going nowhere. It is their only escape from reality and a way to keep dreaming.
The singer laments about the people who have come and gone from their life, questioning why they are the only one left holding onto their past. This highlights the singer's struggle to move forward and let go of the past. They feel alone and stuck, wondering if they will ever find a way to leave their current situation. However, as the song progresses, the singer comes to realize that it's time to open their eyes and accept that not all dreams last forever. They need to face reality and move on from their past, even if it means leaving people behind.
Overall, the song is a poignant reminder that sometimes it's okay to let go of the past and start afresh. It's about accepting that life doesn't always take us where we want to go, but we need to keep fighting, keep moving forward, and keep dreaming.
