David Duchovny
Bree Sharp Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's Sunday night, I am curled up in my room
The TV light fills my heart like a balloon
I hold it in as best I can
I know I'm just another fan
But I can't help feeling I could love this secret agent man
I can't...

Wait anymore for him to discover me
I got it bad for David Duchovny
David Duchovny, why won't you love me?
Why won't you love me?

My friends all tell me,
â??Girl you know it's just a show
But deep within his eyes
I see me wrapped up like a bow
Watching the sky for a sign
The FBI is on my mind
I'm waiting for the day
When my lucky stars align
In the form of...

David Duchovny floating above me
In the alien light of the spaceship of love, I need
David Duchovny hovering above me
American Heathcliff, brooding and comely
David Duchovny, why won't you love me?
Why won't you love me?

So smooth and so smart
He's abducted my heart
And I'm falling apart
From the looks I receive
From those eyes I can't leave
And you can say I'm naive
But he told me to believe

My bags are packed, I am ready for my flight
Want to put an end to my daydream days and sleepless nights
Sitting like a mindless clone
Wishing he would tap my phone
Just to hear the breath of the man, the myth, the monotone
And I would say...

David Duchovny, why won't you love me?
Why won't you love me? Why won't you love me?
David Duchovny, why won't you love me?
Why won't you love me? Why won't you love me?
David Duchovny I want you to love me
To kiss and to hug me, debrief and debug me
David Duchovny I know you could love me
I'm sweet and I'm cuddly-I'm gonna kill Scully!
David Duchovny, why won't you love me?
Why won't you love me? Why won't you love me?

I'll be waiting...
In Nevada...

Overall Meaning

Bree Sharp's song "David Duchovny" is essentially a love letter to the actor who played Fox Mulder in the popular TV show "The X-Files," exploring the infatuation of a fan with the character he portrayed. The lyrics express the feelings of a young woman who is smitten with David Duchovny and wishes he would love her back. The singer is completely enamored with Fox Mulder, and despite being aware that he is just a character on a TV show, she cannot help but fantasize about him.

Throughout the song, the woman imagines various scenarios in which David Duchovny would fall in love with her, from seeing her wrapped up like a bow in his eyes, to riding in an alien spaceship of love with him, to hearing his monotone breath on the phone. She is so consumed with her infatuation that she even considers killing off Mulder's partner, Scully, just so she can have a chance with him. Ultimately, the song ends with her pledging to wait for David Duchovny in Nevada, emphasizing the desperation and devotion of her love.

The song's lyrics are both humorous and heartfelt, capturing the essence of what makes fandom so compelling and addicting. The singer's love for David Duchovny is not just about the actor playing a role, but about the character himself and the world in which he exists. It is the combination of these elements that fuels her desire, providing a grounding force for her daydreams and aspirations.

Gillian singing "he told me to believe" really got me 🥺❤

@NicoleCamileSantosAlexandre

I used to listen to this song all the time around 2007 haha and I just found out about this video. I'm an X-files fan and Buffy fan the part where Sarah sings "I'm gonna kill Scully" makes me sooo happy 😍😍😍 I wish they would have made a crossover episode 💔

@rachelb6153

That would have been an excellent idea!! I remember reading a synopsis of Buffy once and it said the show was like a cross between The X-Files and My So-Called Life. I love all 3 shows

@lynaz07

Yes!!  I finally found this again after so many years - the full version of this video!!  I've been watching the short and tiny version that was on a website many years ago.  This video was made for David Duchovy's birthday on the set, so I really enjoyed seeing it after all these years again!  Thank you!!  Oh, and I do love you, David Duchovny!

@kristenm4897

omg I remember SOMEHOW my dad got a copy of this on VHS back then… I think at SD comic con or something, all I know was that my pre teen self with the GIANT crush on DD was literally flailing/squeeing over this before those were even recognized verbs. And I watched it about 800 times. Also, can we just take a moment to reflect on the fact that this isn't a "real" music video, it was basically th- "first gen fanvid" ever made but  since CC & co. were the creators, we ended up buttload of (1998) celebrities (the baywatch ones are hilarious now, and also Brad Pitt everyone!) literally singing lines from this obscure song about a relatively popular, but only kind of, tv show. Back then Fox Network was literally mostly running off reruns of Cops and Jerry Springer. Back to the vid, ratchets up the awesome scale b/c they even have bloopers at the end. This is so classic and awesome and pretty much the beginning of 'fandom' as we know it - just w/o high speed internet yet! ;D

@ejbrush

This is absolutely the best 90's cameo video ever.

@BriDarling43

This never fails to put me in a better mood. So many 90's memories. Good times!

@mads-madas

Holy crap I love Bree Sharp so much. This isn't even her best song and it's still pelvis-shatteringly amazing.

@mchambers7838

Nick Lea is so good at music. I can't wait for more videos of him singing. I didn't realize that he played the drums as well as the guitar. I'm sure he can do anything that he puts his mind to.

@brittyn

this never ever gets old. i remember watching this on vhs from a copy of a copy of a copy of a copy, so glad to see it in better quality!
