Blueberry Hill
Brenda Lee Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I found my thrill
On Blueberry Hill
On Blueberry Hill
When I found you
The moon stood still
On Blueberry Hill
And Lingered until
My dreams came true

The wind in the willows played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows we made
They were never to be
Through we're apart
You're part of me still
For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill

The wind in the willows played
Love's sweet melody
But all of those vows we made
They were never to be
Through we're apart
You're part of me still
For you were my thrill
On Blueberry Hill

Oh you were my thrill on
Blueberry Hill

Overall Meaning

Brenda Lee's rendition of the classic song "Blueberry Hill" tells the story of love's fulfillment. The singer in the song has found their excitement, or “thrill”, on Blueberry Hill once they found their significant other. The moon stands still while the willows sway in the wind and love’s sweet melody plays on. Although the vows they allude to have since dissipated, the singer maintains a part of their partner in them. The partner has evidently been a thrilling aspect of their life, and they reminisce on their time on the hill that brought them to this point in their relationship. The song has a soft and sweet sentimentality to it, a perfect representation of a newfound romance.

One interesting fact about "Blueberry Hill" is that it was first made famous by Fats Domino in 1956, four years before Brenda Lee's version came out. Additionally, the song was actually written in 1940 by artists Al Lewis and Larry Stock. Interestingly, the song wasn’t always called "Blueberry Hill". In fact, it was named "I Found My Thrill on Charmaine Hill" and got its iconic name from a restaurant in Los Angeles named “Blueberry Hill”. The song has been covered numerous times throughout the years by various artists, solidifying its timelessness. It was even used in the movie “The Man Who Fell to Earth” while the character Thomas Newton is revealed to wear a wig made of blue hair. It is said that the piano solo which starts the song was not played by Fats Domino himself, but by his longtime collaborator, David Bartholomew.

Chords: C, Am, F, G7.

Nice version of this song.  I liked it very much when I Heard it in my teen years and wondered how blueberries were as they do not grow in Guatemala. But when I was in America studying at UCLA I found how they are and liked them.

Romeo Cortez

I don't care who sang it better. Brenda Lee is with the tops.

little miss dynamite, what a STAR.xxx.

The backup singers sound exactly like those on the intro of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". On this song, I don't think Brenda needed them. She's quite alright on her own, thank you.
