Reminiscing
Brian Cadd and Glenn Shorrock Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
We got down to the gate, I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right?
How to tell you girl, I want to build my world around you
Wanna tell you that it's true
I wanna make you understand I'm talking about a lifetime plan
Well that's the way it began, we were hand-in-hand
We yelled and screamed for more
And those Porter's tunes made us dance across the room
It ended all too soon
On the way back home I promised you'd never be alone
Hurry, don't be late
I can't hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark, walking through the park
And reminiscing
Friday night it was late, I was walking you home
We got down to the gate, I was dreaming of the night
Would it turn out right?
Now as the years roll on, each time we hear our favorite song
The memories come along
Older times we're missing, spending the hours reminiscing
Hurry, don't be late
I can't hardly wait
I said to myself when we're old
We'll go dancing in the dark, walking through the park
And reminiscing
The song Reminiscing by Brian Cadd and Glenn Shorrock is a nostalgic ballad that reminisces about a beautiful past moment. The song is a first-person account of memories that a man carries with him of a beautiful Friday night that he spent with his girl. The song begins with a beautiful description of the night which seems to be perfect for two people to be walking and talking: "Friday night it was late, I was walking you home. We got down to the gate, I was dreaming of the night. Would it turn out right?"
The man then expresses his love for the girl and describes his wish to spend his whole life with her: "Wanna tell you that it's true. I wanna make you understand I'm talking about a lifetime plan." The chorus of the song talks about how they enjoyed Glenn Miller's band on that night and how as they got older, hearing the sounds of their favorite song would transport them back to that wonderful time: "On the way back home I promised you'd never be alone…Hurry, don't be late. I can't hardly wait…I said to myself when we're old, we'll go dancing in the dark, walking through the park, and reminiscing."
In conclusion, the song Reminiscing is a heartwarming tribute to a beautiful memory. The song uses vivid descriptions to evoke a sense of nostalgia in the listener, taking them back to that magical moment of love and happiness. The lyrics remind us of the beauty of life's simple moments, and how they can forever be cherished in our hearts.
