McComas later attended college, but soon dropped out to move to Nashville, Tennessee. McComas briefly signed to Mercury Records, before he landed a deal with Lyric Street in 2001, charting the singles "Night Disappear With You" and "I Could Never Love You Enough". In 2003, he landed his first Top 10, "99.9% Sure (I've Never Been Here Before)" and the follow up "You're in My Head", a #21 hit on the country charts. Another single for Lyric Street, "The Middle of Nowhere", fell short of the Top 40, and Lyric Street dropped him not long afterward. He later signed to Katapult Records, where he released Back Up Again, his second album.

I never tried to make you think
Or make you see one thing for yourself
But now you're off with someone else and I'm alone
You see I thought that I might keep you for my own
Amie, what you wanna do
I think I could stay with you
Don't you think the time was right for us to find
All the things we thought weren't proper could be right in time?
And can't you see which way we should turn together or alone
I can never see what's right or what is wrong
Don't you take too long to tell me?
Amie, what you wanna do
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer, if I do?
Amie, what you wanna do
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer, if I do?
Now just come to what you want, you've had your way
And all the things you thought before just faded into gray
And you can say that I don't know if it's you or if it's me
If it's one of us, I'm sure we both will see
Won't you look at me and tell me
Amie, what you wanna do
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer, if I do?
Amie, what you wanna do
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer, if I do?
Amie, what you wanna do
I think I could stay with you
For a while, maybe longer, if I do?
Amie, what you wanna do
The lyrics to Brian McComas's song Amie speak of a failed relationship and one person's desire to hold onto it. The singer acknowledges that he understands why the other person feels like they belong to him, but he also never tried to control their thoughts or actions. Now, though, he finds himself alone after the other person has moved on. He had hoped to keep them for himself.
The chorus, which is repeated throughout the song, asks the titular character, Amie, what she wants to do. The singer says he could stay with her for a while, maybe longer, if she wants him to. He suggests that they explore the things they previously thought were not proper but could be right in the future together or alone. However, he also admits that he cannot see what is right or wrong, and he implores Amie not to take too long to tell him what she wants.
Overall, the song speaks to the pain of separation and the desire to hold onto a lost love. The singer is willing to try again with Amie, but he needs her to make the first move and tell him what she wants.
