Brian McKnight Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Ooh, ooh
Do you ever think about me?
Do you ever cry yourself to sleep?
In the middle of the night when you're awake,
Are you calling out for me?
Do you ever reminisce?
I can't believe I'm acting like this
I know it's crazy
How I still can feel your kiss

It's been six months, eight days, twelve hours
Since you went away
I miss you so much and I don't know what to say
I should be over you
I should know better but it's just not the case
It's been six months, eight days, twelve hours
Since you went away

Do you ever ask about me?
Do your friends still tell you what to do?
Every time the phone rings,
Do you wish it was me calling you?
Do you still feel the same?
Or has time put out the flame?
I miss you
Is everything okay?

It's hard enough just passing the time
When I can't seem to get you off my mind
And where is the good in goodbye?
Tell me why, tell me why

Sing it for me
Ooh, ooh

Overall Meaning

These lyrics from Brian McKnight's song 6 8 12 express the heartbreak and longing of someone who's been separated from their loved one for a specific amount of time. The lyrics are written in a series of questions, which are directed towards the person who's no longer around. The singer of the song can't stop thinking about their past partner and how much they miss them. They wonder if their former partner also feels the same or has moved on. The singer is vulnerable and admits that the feelings for their partner haven't gone away even after the six months, eight days, twelve hours since their break up. The emotions are heightened by the repetition of the specific amount of time that has passed, adding to the melancholy and desperate feeling of the song.

The lyrics are relatable as anyone who has gone through a break-up can understand the feeling of missing someone who is no longer with them. The song speaks to the pain of separation and how it can feel unending. It suggests that even when they're not together physically, the memory of the person still remains prominently and it's hard to let go. The lyrics are simple, yet powerful in their honesty and vulnerability.

How TF does this man not have a Grammy... DAMN

@ndamumamafha1711

Grammys are extremely biased, for that reason they ve lost their credibility to me

@xandermorrisettejr.9389

Fuck the grammys. Brian is A LEGEND!!

@listeningviayoutube7229

That lets you know that the Grammys do no validate genuine, non-autotune talent.

@alovekellz

He has the talent but, his instruments/band is NOT catchy. Notice how some people can't sing but, they come with a tight beat and they stay on the charts for weeks. Brian vocals are always nice & his lyrics but he need the 2 to connect to the ears of the majority. The band is nice but, you have to stand out and have a beat that has the "IT" Factor. I have his CD's from the very beginning but, he NEVER get radio time and he's very talented.
