Do You Love Me
Brian Poole Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

You broke my heart 'cause I couldn't dance,
You didn't even want me around.
And now I'm back to let you know I can really shake 'em down.

Do you love me?
(I can really move, )
Do you love me?
(I'm in the groove.)
Now do you love me?
(Do you love me now that I can dance?)
Watch me, now.
(Work, work)
Ah,work it out baby.
(work, work)
Well, you're drivin' me crazy.
(work, work)
With just a little bit of soul, now
(work!)
Now I can mash potatoes, I can do the twist,
Tell me, baby, do you like it like this?
Tell me,
(Tell me,)
Tell me.

Tell me,
(Tell me,)

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Do You Love Me" by Brian Poole & The Tremeloes are about a man who was rejected by his lover because of his inability to dance. He is now back and trying to prove to her that he can dance and is worthy of her love. He confidently declares that he can "shake 'em down" and asks her repeatedly if she loves him, now that he can dance. He then shows off his moves and asks if she likes it like that, trying to win her affection back.

The lyrics are representative of many similar songs in the early 1960s that emphasized dancing as a way to connect or reconnect romantically with someone. The song has a lively beat and catchy melody that invite the listener to dance along, emphasizing the importance of dance as a cultural phenomenon during that time period. The lyrics touch on themes of self-improvement, determination, and the desire for love and acceptance.

love this vibe

@michaelbriefs9764

That drummer was AWESOME! I'm learning that his name was Dave Munden, right? Kick ass drummer! Beautiful set, big drums, fun, articulate, busy playing (on the fills) and overall spot-on playing! I have never heard of Brian Poole and the Tremelos (or Tremoloes) until today. I read about them in the John Bonham biography called "Beast". Now I'm like, Wow! I mean, the group is kind of just OK, in terms of songwriting but that drummer had the moves!

@peterchecksfield9958

Dave Munden sadly died a couple of years ago, but yes he was fabulous (great singer too!). Check this out:

Brian Poole and the Tremeloes are most famous for being the band preferred by Decca records over the Beatles.

They got signed after Decca rejected the Beatles for a record contract.

@adrinathegreat3095

Kind of certainly in the USA many assume they were a flop, in the UK they were very popular Thier version of twist and shout made no.1 in 1963, and they had many other top 10 hits as well, after Brian left the tremeloes went onto to have a few big hits in their own right, so made Decca a lot of money.
Decca was at the time a huge record company with most of the UK's top recording artist's..
So they were hugely successful in Thier own right in the UK, but not in the USA

@c.syde65

Brian Poole is essentially the vocal equivalent of Paul McCartney in The Tremeloes.
