Early in his career, Texas dancer, choreographer, and singer Brian Puspos established himself as part of the hip-hop dance group SoReal Cru, which finished in second place on America's Best Dance Crew's second season in 2008. The Houston-born Filipino-American started dancing at a young age, surrounded by a family that also leaned toward entertainment. Later, he would develop his vocal abilities, focusing on smooth R&B delivery. On his online streaming channel, he performed acoustic R&B and rap covers set to his own choreography. Influenced by late '90s and early-2000s R&B like Dru Hill, Puspos uploaded his versions of hits by Bryson Tiller, Drake, Bruno Mars, and Anderson. Paak. Paak would later join Puspos in the studio, co-writing the track "Be Ready," which appeared on Puspos' debut EP, S.L.A.B. ("Slow Love and Bangin'"). The six-track effort arrived in early 2017, preceded by the slinky bedroom R&B single "Murder She Wrote." S.L.A.B. debuted at number 24 on the Billboard R&B Albums chart.

We could be friends, do you know how?
Or we could fight til the last round
But I leave it up to you
We had a flame, but they don't last
Burning too bright, burning too fast
We had our days but they all passed
So lets just let it go
I thought that we'd be cool, we wouldn't play this game
Can't move on but I don't need to know his name
If you gonna go and put it in my face
Well, imma do the same
You did it first so it's all on you
I never thought that we could be so cruel
But imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Said imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
You gotta do what you gotta do
Get under her to get over you
So imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Said imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Get any wiser, just older
When you got your head on his shoulder
Pretend that it's me when he holds you
But that don't mean a thing
I thought that we'd be cool, we wouldn't play this game
Can't move on but I don't need to know his name
If you gonna go and put it in my face
Well, imma do the same
You did it first so it's all on you
I never thought that we could be so cruel
But imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Said imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
You gotta do what you gotta do
Get under her to get over you
So imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Said imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Please don't call and tell me 'bout the messed up shit you did
'Cause imma have to do the same, now that I know 'bout it
You did it first so it's all on you
I never thought that we could be so cruel
But imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Said imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
You gotta do what you gotta do
Get under her to get over you
So imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
Said imma hit that, imma hit that rebound
imma hit that, imma hit that
imma hit that, imma hit that, that rebound
The song Rebound by Brian Puspos is about a complicated relationship where the singer realizes that it's time to move on. The first verse sets the tone for the rest of the song, presenting the different options for how the relationship could continue. The chorus then explains that the singer has decided to hit the rebound, or move on to someone new, because the relationship has become too difficult and painful to maintain.
The second verse further explains the singer's decision to move on by stating that they thought things would be cool, but now they feel that the other person has forced their hand. The bridge takes a more introspective approach, with the singer addressing their own feelings of jealousy and desperation but ultimately concluding that rebounding is the best thing to do.
Overall, the song is a relatable portrayal of the end of a complicated, teenage relationship. It acknowledges the emotional turmoil that can arise in these situations and ultimately advocates for moving on and finding something better.
