One Way
Bridges Lyrics

Let it be known, you do what you say...
You say what you know...
You do what you say
I get confused that me is me and you is you,
If that's the way it's supposed to be
If that's the way it is supposed to be, when we are together.
I wish I was there for you when he died
I know now. You stay when you stay and go when you go.
If that's the way it is supposed to be.
I try, but sometimes things get hard...
When that's the way it is supposed to be.
When we are together. I wish I was there for you when he died.
I hate this part of me. I will hate myself, I realize happiness dies when I'm not with you.
I don't want this to die, I don't want to make you cry.
The lyrics to Bridges's song "One Way" convey the essence of a heartbreak in a relationship where one person seems to be manipulative and deceitful. There is a warning that the person cannot be trusted as they are skilled in lying and have already moved on before the other person notices. The first verse communicates that the person needs to slow down because the singer knows that she has a record of lying in the past. One lie is not enough to last her since she continually repeats them. Despite this, the singer knows that the person has the potential to be good in everything else, but their trust is gone for good.
The second verse adds that the person's actions are entirely stealing the thunder of the other person. The person's tricks make the singer get sucked into her games, and though they know they are better than that, they still find themselves immersed. The singer suggests a fair race to win the other person's heart, but they must speak the truth for that to happen. The chorus repeats the message that the manipulative person is gone for good because the singer knows who they truly are.
