Grease
Broadway Musicals Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I solve my problems and I see the light
We got a lovin' thing, we gotta feed it right
There ain't no danger we can go too far
We start believing now that we can be who we are
Grease is the word

They think our love is just a growing pain
Why don't they understand, it's just a crying shame
Their lips are lying, only real is real
We stop the fight right now, we got to be what we feel
Grease is the word

(Grease is the word, is the word that you heard)
It's got a groove, it's got a meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion
Grease is the way we are feeling

We take the pressure and we throw away
Conventionality belongs to yesterday
There is a chance that we can make it so far
We start believing now that we can be who we are
Grease is the word

(Grease is the word, is the word that you heard)
It's got a groove, it's got a meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion
Now, grease is the way we are feeling

This is a life of illusion
Wrapped up in trouble
Laced with confusion
What are we doing here?

We take the pressure and we throw away
Conventionality belongs to yesterday
There is a chance that we can make it so far
We start believing now that we can be who we are (be who we are)
Grease is the word

(Grease is the word, is the word that you heard)
It's got a groove, it's got a meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion
Now, grease is the way we are feeling

(Grease is the word, is the word that you heard)
It's got a groove, it's got a meaning
Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion

Overall Meaning

The song Grease by Broadway Musicals is filled with energy and attitude that encapsulates what it is really like to be young and in love during the 1950s. The lyrics tell of wanting to live life on one's own terms and not conforming to societal conventions. The song speaks of getting rid of conventionality, which belongs in the past, and embracing individuality.

The first verse of the song, "I solve my problems and I see the light, We got a lovin' thing, we gotta feed it right, There ain't no danger we can go too far, We start believing now that we can be who we are," is a call to action to embrace love and believe in oneself. The second verse "We take the pressure and we throw away, Conventionality belongs to yesterday, There is a chance that we can make it so far, We start believing now that we can be who we are," is another call to action to let go of the past and embrace the unknown future, as long as it's true to oneself.

The chorus, "Grease is the word, is the word that you heard, It's got a groove, it's got a meaning, Grease is the time, is the place, is the motion, Grease is the way we are feeling," reinforces the notion that love and individuality are the driving forces that define oneself. The repetition of "Grease is the word" serves as a reminder that individuality is what defines someone and that embracing it is the key to happiness.

Overall, the song Grease is an anthem about staying true to oneself and embracing individuality, no matter how uncomfortable that may be. It encourages individuals to embrace love and to believe in oneself, and to understand that change is a spearhead for future opportunities.

One of the coolest parts of this cast was we were in one of the bars on the last night of the cruise. They took over the piano and they started singing random songs. "Sandra Dee" belted out "Let it Go" and and it was stellar! I remember a song with a sax solo in this musical. Does anyone know what song that was?

Anime Man

sax solo that sounds like we go together if Im correct, during the middle of that song it has a sax solo
