Crossing Paths
Brock Berrigan Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Well, here we are, back in the hot muggy streets of New York

Starting right now

Sound was the weapon
Alright
What could it have been
I don't know, but let's get outa here

Overall Meaning

Brock Berrigan's song "Crossing Paths" opens with an urban scene-setting that evokes a sense of familiarity and perhaps even nostalgia for those who have visited or lived in New York City. The hot, muggy streets are a fixture of the city's summer heatwaves and the lyrics suggest a return to the familiar after some time away. The line "starting right now" could be interpreted as the beginning of the song or the singer's readiness to take action in their surroundings.

When the lyrics shift to "sound was the weapon," it creates a feeling of tension and urgency. The use of the word "weapon" suggests potential danger or a threat, while the following line of "what could it have been" adds to the mystery and uncertainty of the situation. The singer's response of wanting to leave immediately adds to the sense of urgency and the idea that something dangerous or uncertain is happening.

Overall, the lyrics of "Crossing Paths" create a sense of familiarity, tension, and mystery as the singer navigates their urban environment.

+Brock Berrigan: I'm both sorry it's taken (me) this long to 'find' you, and happy that I did.

The 'music' business is .... well, awful, and people who say they're sampling, are not - they're wholesale cutting, and copying, and pronouncing it 'original'.

This work of yours IS original - it's in a way - similar to one of my favorite groups, Pizzicato 5 - who would take snippets, which were great hooks, in, and of themselves, and re-combine them, into something NEW.

I first heard of you while watching that 'Silver Surfer' video, which I DO remember seeing downtown.

I'm definitely gonna do my part, and 'spread the word'.

Thank YOU!

His sampled dialogues, though from completely different places, seem to interject so smoothly.
