Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely
Once I was seven years old
It was a big big world, but we thought we were bigger
Pushing each other to the limits, we were learning quicker
By eleven smoking herb and drinking burning liquor
Never rich so we were out to make that steady figure
Once I was eleven years old my daddy told me
Go get yourself a wife or you'll be lonely
Once I was eleven years old
I always had that dream like my daddy before me
So I started writing songs, I started writing stories
Something about that glory just always seemed to bore me
Cause only those I really love will ever really know me
Once I was 20 years old, my story got told
Before the morning sun, when life was lonely
Once I was 20 years old
I only see my goals, I don't believe in failure
Cause I know the smallest voices, they can make it major
I got my boys with me at least those in favor
And if we don't meet before I leave, I hope I'll see you later
Once I was 20 years old, my story got told
I was writing about everything, I saw before me
Once I was 20 years old
Soon we'll be 30 years old, our songs have been sold
We've traveled around the world and we're still roaming
Soon we'll be 30 years old
I'm still learning about life
My woman brought children for me
So I can sing them all my songs
And I can tell them stories
Most of my boys are with me
Some are still out seeking glory
And some I had to leave behind
My brother I'm still sorry
Soon I'll be 60 years old, my daddy got 61
Remember life and then your life becomes a better one
I made a man so happy when I wrote a letter once
I hope my children come and visit, once or twice a month
Soon I'll be 60 years old, will I think the world is cold
Or will I have a lot of children who can warm me
Soon I'll be 60 years old
Soon I'll be 60 years old, will I think the world is cold
Or will I have a lot of children who can hold me
Soon I'll be 60 years old
Once I was seven years old, my momma told me
Go make yourself some friends or you'll be lonely
Once I was seven years old
Once I was seven years old
In "7 Years," Brooklyn Duo reflects on the various stages of life, from childhood to adulthood to old age. The song begins with the singer reminiscing about his youth, when his mother advised him to make friends or risk being lonely. As he grows older, he becomes more self-aware, confident, and driven. By the time he is twenty, he has already achieved moderate success as a musician and is determined to pursue his dreams. As he approaches thirty and then sixty, he reflects on his successes, the people he has loved and lost, and the legacy he hopes to leave behind.
The song is a powerful meditation on the passage of time and the importance of cherishing the people and experiences that make life meaningful. Through its poignant lyrics and haunting melody, "7 Years" encourages listeners to take stock of their own lives and appreciate the moments that truly matter.
The song also underscores the importance of human connection and the role that friends and family can play in guiding us through life's ups and downs. By heeding the advice of his parents, the singer was able to forge lasting relationships that sustained him throughout his life.

I am a cello player in 6th grade playing highschool music. It puts. Lot of stress on me, but as soon as I get home from school I watch your videos and it makes all the stress disappear. You guys are such an inspiration to me and I really wish I could be like the when I'm older.

Hey guys! Thanks for watching! Sorry we missed our video release last week. Funny story - we started to cover Hotline Bling and got pretty far into it until we realized the melody sounded terrible on cello. We were trying to do something a little different, but it didn't work out. Anyway, we really tried! And then we found this song and fell in love. (Lukas Graham, if you're reading this, take us on tour with you. Please.) Thanks again guys! What should we cover next week? :)

My son was born on the 7th and now it has been 7 years of his passing. He died from a fatal car crash leaving from night fishing 7 miles from his house. Loving the emotions of this song and the melody of 7 years
