Into the Fire
Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band & The Miami Horns Lyrics

I heard you calling me, then you disappeared into the dust
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs,
Into the fire
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love
You gave your love to see, in fields of red and autumn brown
You gave your love to me and lay your young body down
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need you near, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs,
Into the fire
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love give us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love
It was dark, too dark to see, you held me in the light you gave
You lay your hand on me
Then walked into the darkness of your smoky grave
Up the stairs, into the fire
Up the stairs, into the fire
I need your kiss, but love and duty called you someplace higher
Somewhere up the stairs,
Into the fire
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love
May your strength give us strength
May your faith give us faith
May your hope give us hope
May your love bring us love
May your love bring us love
The lyrics to "Into the Fire" by Bruce Springsteen are a tribute to the firefighters who died in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. The song begins with the singer hearing someone calling him as the sky falls and is filled with blood. He goes up the stairs, into the fire, but the person he needs is gone. He talks about love and duty calling them someplace higher, somewhere up the stairs, into the fire. The song seems to be directed at a specific person who was lost in the attacks.
The second part of the song is a prayer for strength, faith, hope, and love. The singer asks for strength, faith, hope, and love to be given to those left behind after this tragedy. The last verse talks about how dark the situation is, but the person he loved held him in the light and then walked into the darkness. The song ends with a hopeful message that love can conquer even the darkest situations.
Overall, "Into the Fire" is a powerful and emotional tribute to those who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. It captures the pain, sorrow, and hope that people felt in the aftermath of such a devastating tragedy.

every year since his passing ...I look at this remembrance and think back to a time when I first saw them live...over 30 years ago.. the greatest gift he and Bruce have given us is their music,,,it shall never die..

"Everything changed, when the Big Man joined the band". Proof that this wasn't written by some hack, but by someone who actually knew and felt the loss of Clarence. Great tribute.

I can't stand Brian Williams, but this was a very lovely tribute to an amazing musician! "Jungleland" is such a moving song and Clarence's sax solo is so moving. There are songs that I enjoy and then there are songs that make me stop what I am doing, close my eyes, and listen to the beauty. That's what Clarence's touch on "Jungleland" does for me. RIP CC!

Thank you Big Man I loved the sax and I loved listening to you play. Not many musicians can bring tears to my eyes but you always did with you fabulous sound. You will be missed by a great many people but possibly not as much as Bruce will miss you.You two were brothers up on that stage two became one. Rest in Peace big man and a very BIG THANK YOU.

I take my hat off to Mr. Williams for this incredibly beautiful piece on The Big Man. This world was so lucky to have known Clarence Clemons. I am 21 years old and I discovered the music of Bruce back in 2005-2006 when I was a sophomore in High School. I actually had the honor and the privilege of seeing the full E Street Band (including Danny) back in 2008 and again in 2009. I am heartbroken that I will never see Clarence on a stage again. We will NEVER forget him or the music he gave us.
