Born and raised in Honolulu, Hawaii, Mars moved to Los Angeles in 2003 to pursue a musical career. In 2009, he co-founded the production team The Smeezingtons, responsible for various successful singles for Mars himself and other artists. He rose to fame in 2010 buoyed by the success of "Nothin' on You" by B.o.B and "Billionaire" by Travie McCoy, both of which featured his vocals. That year, Mars released his debut studio album Doo-Wops & Hooligans, which blended pop with reggae pop and R&B. It spawned the international number-one singles "Just the Way You Are", "Grenade", and "The Lazy Song". Drawing inspiration from disco, funk, rock, reggae and soul genres, his second studio album, Unorthodox Jukebox (2012), was his first number one on the Billboard 200. It amassed two Billboard Hot 100 number-one hits, "Locked Out of Heaven" and "When I Was Your Man".
In 2014, Mars was featured on Mark Ronson's "Uptown Funk", which topped various music charts, spending a total of fourteen and seven weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart, respectively. Mars's third studio album, the R&B-focused, 24K Magic (2016), received seven Grammy Awards, winning the major categories of Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. The album also yielded the top-five singles "24K Magic", "That's What I Like", his seventh Billboard Hot 100 number-one single, and a remix of "Finesse" featuring Cardi B. In 2021, Mars collaborated with Anderson .Paak as Silk Sonic on the full-length album An Evening with Silk Sonic, whose single "Leave the Door Open" topped the Billboard Hot 100.
Mars has sold over 130 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time. He has released eight number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 since his career launched in 2010, attaining his first five faster than any male artist since Elvis Presley. Mars became the first artist to receive five diamond certified songs in the United States. He was included in Music Week and Billboard magazine as one of the best songwriters of 2011 and 2013, respectively. Mars has received several awards and nominations, including 11 Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, nine American Music Awards, 10 Soul Train Awards and holds three Guinness world records. He appeared in Time magazine's annual list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2011, Forbes magazine's list of "30 Under 30" in 2013, and Forbes's Celebrity 100 in 2014, 2018, and 2019.

Fresh out the mall in our brand new fit's
Going ninety five in our brand new whips
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
La ladies is pimps too, oh
They know we so paid
Standin' on the table, sippin' ace of spades
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
La ladies is pimps too, oh
Standing at the bar, you know where we are
You lookin for the best
You don't have to look far
Yeah, we some super models
Buying our own bottles living the good life
Hard for them haters to swallow
And now we're livin' the dream
We keep our purse full of cream
Us girls, we get it in, money just like them
Ladies, holler if you feel me
Fresh out the mall in our brand new fit's
Going ninety five in our brand new whips
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
La ladies is pimps too, oh
Strut through the club, yeah
They know we so paid
Standin' on the table, sippin' ace of spades
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
La ladies is pimps too, oh
Louis Vuitton pumps to match the hand bag
Diamonds on my neck and I don't mean to brag
But I work hard for this money
(Hard, hard for this money)
And in case you didn't hear me
I work hard for this money, money
Checks in the mail every day
That's why these boys be like Hey baby
Hey baby
Us girls, we get it in, money just like them
Ladies, holler if you feel me
Fresh out the mall in our brand new fit's
Going ninety five in our brand new whips
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
La ladies is pimps too, oh
Strut through the club, yeah
They know we so paid
Standin' on the table, sippin' ace of spades
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
La ladies is pimps too, oh
If you get your own paper, got your own dimes
Buy your own drinks, on your own grind
Then put your hands up, up, up
Ladies, put your hands up, up, up
If you got your own house, got your own car
And you don't need a man to know who you are
Then put your hands up, up, up
Ladies, put your hands up, up, ha
Fresh out the mall in our brand new fit's
Going ninety five in our brand new whips
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
La ladies is pimps too, oh
Strut through the club, yeah
They know we so paid
Standin' on the table, sippin' ace of spades
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too
Sayin' Ladies is pimps too

The lyrics of Bruno Mars' song "Ladies Is Pimps Too" express a message of empowerment and celebration of women who are confident, independent, and successful. The chorus emphasizes the idea that women can also be pimps, in the sense of being in control and living a luxurious lifestyle. It challenges the stereotype that only men can attain such a status, asserting that women can also be strong and influential.
The first verse talks about how the women in the song have just come from shopping at the mall and are driving in their brand new cars. They proudly declare that "Ladies is pimps too" and that they deserve the same recognition and respect. It signifies their confidence and self-assuredness.
In the second verse, the lyrics emphasize the women's social status and financial independence. They strut through the club, letting everyone know they are successful and well-off. Standing on the table and sipping expensive alcohol like Ace of Spades champagne demonstrates their luxurious lifestyle. They reiterate that "Ladies is pimps too," asserting their equal status in the game.
The third verse touches upon the material possessions and achievements of these women. They wear expensive designer shoes, carry high-end handbags, and have diamonds adorning their necks. The lyrics indicate that they have worked hard to earn the money and deserve to be proud of their accomplishments. They receive checks in the mail every day, portraying their financial independence and the admiration they receive from others.
The final verse is a call to action for all women who have achieved their own success and financial stability. If they have their own money, take care of themselves, and don't rely on men for their worth, they are encouraged to raise their hands and celebrate their independence. The song ends with a shoutout to the production company and a playful announcement of another hit song.
Overall, "Ladies Is Pimps Too" celebrates women who are strong, independent, and successful. It challenges traditional gender roles and highlights women's empowerment, asserting that they deserve recognition and respect in the same way men do. The song encourages women to take pride in their achievements and embrace their status as pimps in their own right.
